Help - no A/C or fan - nothing!

Gents - thanks for any info in advance!

We have an 04 E500 with about 12,000 miles on the clock.

Today for the second time (last times was a couple months back), when getting back into the car after lunch the A/C & Fan would not blow. The A/C display indicated that the the A/C was on and max cooling (all the bars) but nothing was coming out of the vents. None of the control's worked - although you could adjust the temp - up and down! The interesting part, is that the fan that cools the radiator was blowing full blast. It was so noisy that people in other cars were looking over. One the 15 minute drive back to the office, it would "work" for about 3 seconds and then nothing....this happened 5 times. The noise in the underground parking garage was something to behold!

Has anyone had a similar experience. The last time this happened, of course, it would not do it at the dealer and the diagnostics showed nothing! Needless to say, this is very frustrating.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated,

Cheers

Don't quote me on this but I believe there is an updated blower motor regulator to be installed. It also fits for other models... I think 203, 209 etc...

I have had this problem for at least a year now. I've taken it in several times and have had every technician look at it. I am currently working directly with MBUSA to fix it.

Not going to be an easy fix. One way I've learned to live with it is to turn the fan down when it starts up. Seems like it only happens when it goes into MAX fan speed at startup.

Blower regulator, 230 821 63 51.

The blower starts up and may shut off for approximately 90 seconds. The blower tries to restart and shut off again. This cycle may repeat.

Cycling the ignition may allow the blower to start again.

Condition caused by high blower output request from the climate system and the blower regulator overload protection engaging unnecessarily.

This applies to models 171, 211, 230, 203.

Also the Battery Control Module Recall which shuts off "energy consumers" due to erroneous reports of low voltage, which can happen when the blowers kick into "MAX".

I used to have this problem too & they fixed it with those 2 items.

Contact your authorized dealer

I had the same issue last year, and after several attempts, I called in a 'case' with MBUSA. Once that was done, my dealer received a new regulator and replaced it. I have had no trouble since the fix.

It appears to be a known problem, and no one should have to live with this malfunction.

Good luck!

P-B-83.25/76 JAN06 Heater Blower Motor Stops Running. As mentioned, the blower motor regulator should be replaced (part # A230 821 63 51).
