Transmission Fluid Change '06 CDI
A forum member on another Benz website has found that on the '06 CDI,( and maybe also all the 7g trannys) there is a new requirement to change the transmission fluid at 39,000 miles. Interesting. What happened to the "100,000"mile fluid? Maybe they don't want another class action lawsuit, like the FSS Oil Change interval on the earlier E Class vehicles. It will be interesting to find out how the Benz dealer " changes the transmission fluid". With the torque converter sealed, the only way is to pump all the old fluid out with the aid of a machine that is hooked up to the oil cooler lines or the pump inlet lines. If he just drops the pan, he only gets about 3-4 quarts of the 8-9 quarts in the system. I am still looking for a MB dealer with this type of machine, without luck. Anyone with comments?

The MB dealers probably won't have the machines for a while since it will take people a while to rack up 40 K miles on an '06. By the way, I was dealing with a parts guy at a dealership and he told me that MB has come out with a replacement ATF that even cheaper in cost to the "lifetime" ATF. I have an 03 E320 Gas with almost 60K miles and I'm having the ATF changed soon -- the hell with this "lifetime" ATF!!

MBWorld Fanatic!
Nothing says the fluid must be "flushed."
For a trans that should go forever on the original fluid, drain and replace is pretty good.
It is for any trans for that matter.
"Flushing" is hype.

BTW, '06 CDI has 5-speed. '06 Maintenance book covers all E-class. It's not every 39K, it's first 39K.

Flushing
Perhaps a better word would be, " exchanging". Flushing kind of indicates a powered approach. Certainly, that can be dangerous, especially if the lines are hooked up incorrectly. I had a long discussion with my MB dealer shop foreman this morning. They do not have a machine for the fluid "exchange". When they do a full transmission fluid service, he says they drop the pan and disconnect the cooler line. He estimates they get out about 5-7 quarts. That is pretty good, but there are still 4-5 quarts left. I would rather change 3-5 quarts myself, using my Liquidynamic oil evacuator, than bring it to a BG machine facility where the mechanic hasn't worked on Benz's. I plan on doing it each 25,000. At 60-75,000 I will drop the pan, clean the magnet and replace the filter.
