Folding mirrors are not available on US cars, it's a European option only. You have to replace the internal guts of the mirrors and switch on the drivers door to get the mirrors to fold with European parts.

If the "guts" were in the mirrors, why wouldn't MBUSA make them available to us? In a "world" car there are many build variations specifically tailored to each country's authorized importer's specifications.
We don't have as many narrow streets here in the USA, so MBUSA decided not to make this available probably because every option increases the cost of the car here in the USA and every pound that goes into a car lowers its gas mileage for EPA certification, and we already get some of the biggest engines MB makes put into US bound cars.
Its amazing that the same car in other countries comes with a fabric interior, an engine half the size as ours, and a stick!

To complicate matters, not all US W211's have this feature in the instrument cluster to activate, it's simply not there on early build dates. Rumor had it it was only there on '03 production and later build dates, I have a 1/03 build date and Sunman told me he could not get it to come up on my instrument cluster so I have to push the button when I want the mirrors folded.

I purchased the auto folding mirror kit from MBENZNL in April. My MB dealer had no problem in making it work in all aspects for all functions last week (as Steve advertized) for my 06 CLS 55. I was rather concerned when I read his post above. The dealerships still can do this. Steve, you should clarify your post or no one would want to buy this kit any longer if it could not be version coded to work.
