Folding mirrors are not available on US cars, it's a European option only. You have to replace the internal guts of the mirrors and switch on the drivers door to get the mirrors to fold with European parts.

Oh, ok thanks for clearing that up. Someone had told me that it's comming in the 2007 E550 as an option, not sure if that's true......

I have seen the folding mirros in the US tho. On a S55 that i see everyday at the garage at work and also once i think on a E.

Yeah I second that...I've seen a bunch of S430-500's with the power folding mirrors...it is deff available in the US, just on select benz cars

Sorry, I should have been more specific in my answer. Since this is the w211 forum and the owner has a w211, I was only referring to our model.

you have to use a Star Diagnose system and go into the optional equipment menu of the instrument cluster and then set FOLDING MIRRORS = PRESENT

If the "guts" were in the mirrors, why wouldn't MBUSA make them available to us? In a "world" car there are many build variations specifically tailored to each country's authorized importer's specifications.

We don't have as many narrow streets here in the USA, so MBUSA decided not to make this available probably because every option increases the cost of the car here in the USA and every pound that goes into a car lowers its gas mileage for EPA certification, and we already get some of the biggest engines MB makes put into US bound cars.

Its amazing that the same car in other countries comes with a fabric interior, an engine half the size as ours, and a stick!

Sunman installed my mirrors. US versions of the W211 do not have folding mirrors, as mentioned earlier you must have the European mirror assembly (guts inside the housing - you keep your housing and actual mirror) swapped and change the switch on the drivers door. After this is done, then you have to have Star Diagnose to activate this feature in your instrument cluster if you want the mirrors to fold automatically when you lock the car and open the door otherwise they will only fold when you press the button on the drivers door.

To complicate matters, not all US W211's have this feature in the instrument cluster to activate, it's simply not there on early build dates. Rumor had it it was only there on '03 production and later build dates, I have a 1/03 build date and Sunman told me he could not get it to come up on my instrument cluster so I have to push the button when I want the mirrors folded.

Folding mirrors IS NOT a standard feature. It is a Euro option. Simply activating the feature will NOT make your mirrors fold.

I Use the folding mirrors on my W210 and W211 Daily with parking spaces so tight..it saves the Mirrors from being broken off from someone walking next to your car... And on the W211 its great to have power folding mirrors connected to central locking..so that they fold when the car is locked..

it is not that easy anymore on 05s and 06s...dealership stardiagnoses cannot activate that menu anylonger (as the auto folding feature has been deleted by MB in 05s and up)...your and mine stardiag - however - are still able to activate that IC menu...

Power/auto folding mirrors will not be part of the MY07 facelift for the US cars. However, the MY07 mirrors are of a new design and are manually foldable.

I purchased the auto folding mirror kit from MBENZNL in April. My MB dealer had no problem in making it work in all aspects for all functions last week (as Steve advertized) for my 06 CLS 55. I was rather concerned when I read his post above. The dealerships still can do this. Steve, you should clarify your post or no one would want to buy this kit any longer if it could not be version coded to work.

9 out 10 dealers will not be able to code the mirrors to autofold in the newer benzes...might as well write it down like that to prevent us from getting emails about that after people bought their mirrors...as long as we do the install and coding we can still activate auto folding on all nowadays benzes (although some 211s are a paind in the @$$ when it comes to accepting this coding).
