Locator Lighting Erratic
Hello all!
I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on diagnosing what might be the problem here:
On an E500 wagon, the daytime running lights and locator (sometimes call "convenience") lighting are enabled, and the light switch is in the "auto" position.
When the car is first unlocked after it has been sitting for awhile (e.g., first thing in the morning), the interior lighting works as described in the manual, but no outside lights, other than the puddle lights, turn on. My understanding is that the fog, parking and license plate lights also should come on until either a door is opened or 40 seconds goes by. (The wagon is parked in a dark garage.)
I do not believe this to be an issue with ambient lighting in my garage, because if I immediately relock the car and unlock it, the puddle, fog, parking and license plate lights do come on, as I believe should have the first time the car was unlocked.
Thoughts?
Many thanks, in advance,
K.S.

I had almost a similar issue and tried to no avail to set up the lighting via the MFD. I had the dealer go in with StarDiags and set it up. IT's OK now with the parking, fog, interior and puddle lights coming on when locking/unlocking.

Your dealer needs to check the rain light sensor (RLS) software version. If software version is 8.0 or lower the light threshold needs to be adjusted. The set value needs to be decreased. The exact amount has to be determined on the vehicle. A starting point of 74 is recommended.

Double Click
ATS,
Is the double click documented in the manual anywhere? I will check your suggested approach tomorrow.
Many thanks,
Kevin

The way mine is set up, one click will open doors and turn on fogs/puddles when dark (and also turn on the interior dome light). I'll have to try and see what happens with 2 clicks.
