No major problems at all here on any of the Mercedes so far. All of the minor problems that have occured were fixed within a matter of a few minutes, or a couple hours with a loaner car.
All the problems I have had were minor and any car would have had them, in fact I think my Acura has more problems with the electronics than the Mercedes. I would not hesitate at all in purchasing a Mercedes.

All cars have problems. My 2004 lexus has had several recalls. The more technology introduced to a car the greater the risk. Given, some companies are better than others but go out to the Lexus forum and you will see that the problems are not just German related.

I have an 02 build, what you think?
*sigh* never mind, what you think wouldn't even cover half of the problems. I can't even remember them all. I know the turn signal wires and module were bad, replaced the console piece that is under the radio because it was draining the battery (caused car to die), srs sensors all over the place had to be replaced, display defective that comes on when it wants and flickers the dash, ac shuts off intermittently and comes back on within 1 or 2 seconds, audio gateway caused crackling in speakers...that's all i can remember right now. I know there is more.
folks with later model years should be thankful...

Those of us that have been around the block a few times do not buy the first model year. If you do, you can expect to have leading edge wind burn.
Check this thread. How many people who have cars built after about 3/04 have had serious problems? Not many.
As for Lexus, they let the Germans do the R&D for them before they implement new technology. Toyota isn't stupid. Think of all the money they save using safety innovations that Mercedes gives away.

Interesting....well, it definately looks like a) avoid anything from 2003, and b) avoid anything from October/November timeframes ;-)
Thanks for all the info...I think I should be okay with none of the fall prod CDI's it sounds like. Glad to see Merc have finally gotten most of the bugs fixed in their newer model years. '07 seems to be a groundbraking (pardon the bad SBC pun) year for Merc Reliability!

I have a 2007 E63 AMG and a 2007 E550 on order. There is something about the E that attracts me far more than any other Mercedes to date.
The E550 will replace the TL, and the E63 will replace the E55.
Like I said, DO NOT WORRY AT ALL about the so called reliability of the E. It is damn reliable and safe.

You have far too much money on your hands. What do you do (or not do) for a living? I need to get in on some of that kind of action ;-)

Mercedes all the way!
hmm, have a '03 E240 - no problems at all and never did one iota of maintenance on it except oil changes. 3 years now and counting... lightly driven though - just 10k km a year

Look around at some dealers, you might be able to get a brand new one for a hell of a deal. If you dont mind me asking, what part of the US are you in?
