I drove the E500 today

Looks wise, its AMAZING. The car is MUCH better looking than the pictures!!!

It looked better than the S500 to me..

My dealer got them yestreday. I live in TORONTO, Canada.

Just so you know, I also saw the new CLK and i didnt like it at all..looks too small, too C-class'ish and just looks like a car that still needs work done to it.

But the E500 was amazing.

Driving the car:
Soo smooth, i have driven lots of cars that are nice, this was smoother than the lexus LS430 I was driving last week for a couple days. Everything is perfect in the interior, looks simply amazing. Really comfortable seating. Panoramic roof is a MUST, it makes the interior so much nicer...and the cool factor of it, is really good.

Speed wise, it didnt feel like it could do 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, BUT in that car, its really hard to tell your going fast at all. I was doing 140km and it felt like 80km. I was also using sport shift, and the traction control was on.

The brakes on the car are also the best brakes i have ever used. Its like putting my foot in hot butter, but yet so strong at the same time.

I have never driven a smoother car than this. Airmatic is a must.

The ride quality was very well balanced with performance with respect to handling.

THE ONLY THING I NOTICED, is that the front of the E500 looks MUCH more sporty and agressive WITHOUT the sport package. They had both versions at my dealer, with and without the sport package, and I think you will all be pleased without the sport package. I would not waste my money, and would wait to put on the E55 package.

The interior is extremely roomy, the rear seats have lots of room.

The rear of the car looks A LOT better than it did in the pictures.

Test driving the car, it got looks everywhere.

After the test drive, my dad ordered the following for himself:

White E500
Front multi contour
Parktronic
Pano roof
Keyless Go
Harman Kardon
Climate Seats

I think thats it...

BTW, the stock radio on the car was really good, so i can imagine the Harmon Kardon to be outstanding.

Any questions?

Dealer is selling the car, said he got them yesterday.

Its funny how Canada had pricing for the E class 3 weeks ago, but you guys in the u.s. still dont.

Also note that, Dynamic Seats are NOT available till first quarter of 2003 along with COMMAND.

I am really impressed with Mercedes, there is no doubt in my mind this car will be reviewed perfectly by all. I simply dont see anything negative about it.

Very cool......although Dynamic Seats are not on hold for the U.S (only Nav, Folding Rear Seats, Trunk closer), so it can be ordered.

I like the Sport package, especially the sculpted front bumper and Black bird's eye trim/white gauges (about as close to an E55 look as your going to get without getting an E55)....the non-sport is nice as well though. Wheels are not a concern, because we are getting different ones.

This is sooo great. I can't wait until October when my E500 arrives. I'm so excited I can't think about anything else. Sounds like this is one great car.

I am also located in Toronto.

I am debating on the CLK500 or the E320/500

E320

bmms8,

I'm single and do not see myself on getting attached for at lease 3 years.

I like the CLK but not as much as I like the E. I was thinking of the CLK500 if not the E 320. The E500 is out of what I am willing to spend.

WHat do you think?

The E500 is 81k standard
my dads with those options came to 92k

the E320 starts at 69k

I really think you should go for the new E. The CLK was very small, and really didnt look like anything special at all.

Even if you go to Mercedes at Yonge and Steeles, they have the new CLK in the corner of the showroom, where it gets the LEAST exposure.

In fact, lots of people I talk to, dont like the new CLK.

I would go with the new E, regardless of how many people in your family.

also, you wont find any discounting on the new E, or the CLK, but if you want a top notch sales person that knows A LOT about these cars, in a professinoal manner...
then go visit Paol Anderson at the Yonge and Steeles location.

He is great.

E320

amirsafdari,

Thanks for the tip. Will you be buying or leasing your E? Just curious on the numbers?

Do you know where I can find options that are being offered for the E?

Regards,

yok

My dealer explained me that the current inventory of '02 E class in US is big and since pricing for '03 E class will be $2K lower, announcing that will mean stopping selling '02 inventory. Actually, if consider some packages as navigation and parktronic, then price difference can be ~ $4K (navigation is twice cheaper and DVD based and parktronic no special order charges anymore).

Amir: regarding your comparison with the LS430, try taking an E out on the highway and running up over 200 km/hr. One of the things that most stands out to me about MB sedans in general is the way they take very high speeds in stride.
Wind noise is modest, no jitteriness, just smooth and comfortable. Had the opportunity to take advantage of the autobahn awhile back, and MB's really excel there.
Unfortunate that it's difficult in North America to take advantage of one of the car's most outstanding abilities.

good to hear the rear looks better than the pics. i was really pissed to find out they weren't doing the amg for the sport package mostly because the dual exhausts looked so tough. i was actually considering not taking my car when it arrived in 2-3 weeks and waiting to see if they came out with the amg package later.

Those of you that have test driven the E500 does the airmatic allow you to manually lower the car .6 inch? I know it allows you to raise it .8 inch.

Indeed, not getting the AMG package sucks (I was complaining about it from the start). I seriously wouldn't expect any AMG kit to be offered for at least a year.....Benz can't even get all the options that were intended for the U.S./Canada to be available at launch.
