Advice on Flood '04 E500
Looking at a flood E500, seems like water got to the shifter level. Need some advice on deciding to take on this project. What is the availability of used parts, or has anyone here had any luck bringing these newer Mercedes back to life. I am a pretty decent mechanic, and the car just looks too nice to be parted out or crushed. Any advice greatly apreciated.

ya man, the parts will cost u a fortune. You will probably have to replace ECU, TCM, airsuspension components, SBC parts, oh man I wouldn't touch it no matter how nice it looks.

Anyone know where the major electrical part are in the 211's, I know the engine related components are mounted high and sealed, well. What scares me is what kind of relays and other electrical junk, is underneath the floormats, and lower trunk area. I am guessing most of the parts should interchangable with E320's.
What I have heard is that StarDiag is required to program every computer, also most dealers are not gonna touch a flood car.

Electrical problems are one thing, but with a flood car you have to also worry about mold and (if it was a New Orleans car) sewage, toxic chemicals and all manner of nasty things in the flood water. I wouldn't touch it if they gave it away.

Someone paid about $25,000 for a new flooded CDI
Was flooded to the roof.
I couldn't believe it. You can get decent CDI's now with about 15K miles, in the low to mid 40's.
Don't walk, run, from the flooded E500. I might accept the car if they paid me a hauling fee.

What is usually the fate of these cars will someone actually try to save it, will it get parted out? Some of the Katrina cars saw light damage like this one and probably were saved. The only reason I had interest in it was thinking the 211's were a more common model, thinking I would be able to find used parts including interior if needed for a half way resonable price. I know this type of car would have to be a keeper because the resale value would be a joke. I'm sure it will bring in at least 10k at the auction. I guess I'll stay away!
