Glare on rear windshield after tinting?
I just got the windows on my new E350 tinted this weekend and noticed that at night I seem to be getting a glare in my rear windshield caused by light reflecting off of the rear defrosting lines. The tint isn't that dark (35% VLT) and the car is black on black. Is this glare normal or did the tint shop do a poor job? The guy was referred to me by my Mercedes dealer and his work looks pretty good otherwise.

Every car I have ever gotten tinted with a raked rear glass has done that. My 1991 MR2 did not and my Lincoln Aviator doesn't do that. But both of those have vertical rear glass. It's normal, you'll get used to it.
Is this the first car you've ever gotten tinted?

This is the first car I've tinted myself. My last car (Volkswagen Touareg) was factory tinted but, like you said, it has a vertical window so I never noticed any glare. What you said makes total sense, though. Thanks for the response.

I'm about to get my windows tinted this weekend, is there any way to avoid this glare? My sister's Camery have this and I hate it cause you can't see crap in the rear.

It's part of the deal. If you want a rear tinted window and that window is raked, you're gonna get the headlight reflection on your defroster lines. No way around it, that I know of.

I wonder how it's done at the factory? the headlight glare actually makes it more blinding to drive at night.
My friend's accord doesn't have this glare problem on his.

Factory privacy glass is actually black and not tinted with a film. You can get around it by having the defroster lines shaved or sanded down but then you lose the defroster abilities.

was searching around about this problem and found a post that had a meticulous idea about getting away with the defrost line glare.
They can do it in multiple section and line each seam with the defrost line. Should be easier to tint, but probably a lot of working to measure to the exact touching point of the defrost lines.
