W211 windshield replacement

Hi all,
Damn... driving down here in ATL... on Satellite BVLD... rock hit lower left corner... Friggin road work... the crack spead like a **** stars legs...

Anyway... I tried to get a Windshield company to fix it via my insurance company... they won't touch it b/c it has rain sensing wipers????

MB can take it Monday... but the service said it is definately going to be over $1,000. WOW... that is some serious cash for a windshield. Anyone know why so much???? Don't have a problem paying for it... but man... this is going to dip into my Corvette fund...

Hell, my Vette windshield was a mere $170... but I installed it... hmmmm

I got an awesome deal at a local MB dealer. Around $600 for windshield and labor. Usually, the dealers outsources their windshield replacement to some company. Just ask your service advisor which company they have a contract with and bring your car to them instead. Cut out the middle man.

Just a question, but "Full Glass" coverage is so inexpensive... how can you NOT have it? Youre insurance company probably also offers glass coverage with a reasonable deductable too... at a price you shouldn't be able to say no to. Then who cares what the windshield costs? Are you SURE you turned down the glass coverage?

good point.. not sure if I have full glass coverage. I lived in Philly for most of my life so when I moved... I just asked to move the policy... Never really had to worry about cracked windshields up north... don't know why... but it seems everyone down here in Atlanta areas get cracked windshields...

I am going to call All State now... good heads up...didn't even think about it...

Windshield damage is addressed in the "Comprehensive" coverage in your car insurance. It should be covered at 100%. Check with your agent and have MB replace the glass.

MB glass is notorious for easy chips and cracks. That is how they are made. safer, as far as I heard.
anyhow, where in Sd did you guys get $600 installed? You sure it is MB parts (sticker and all)?

Its my understanding that the sticker is a separate part number & can be slapped on any piece of glass if desired.

Feel your pain bro. A rock hit my windshield two weeks after I took delivery of my car! I had a glass shop replace it and it only cost me $450.00. My insurance covered half, had a $250.00 deductible.

I would definetly shop around. The dealer trying to charge you a grand is way too much to pay to replace your windshield.

Goodluck...

Your deductible will be the same out of pocket expense for you whether you spend $400, $600, $1000, etc. Why wouldn't you just let the nearest dealer arrange for the replacement and not worry about the cost?

Hit up MB of Escondido and ask for Larry Hastings. I actually paid a little less than $600 for my OEM windshield (PPG brand) #211-670-02-01 w/ the Daimler decal. I'm on my 2nd windshield needing another replacement.

In the great State of New Hampshire (Live free or Die) insurance companies will not cover the replacement of a windshield. I found that out on my wife's Infiniiti and was BS.

Bought our '03 E320 about 8 weeks ago and 2 weeks ago, while on our way south, in a driving rainstorm in Tennessee, one of the several cars in front of us on I-75 threw a rock into the passenger side of the windshield. It left a small "pock" mark and a couple of small cracks. My local dealer sent me to the glass repair facility that replaces glass for them. I would have opted for a repair of the original glass, so as not to break the factory seal, but they indicated I would still be able to see the repair. The insurance company wanted to go the "repair" route as opposed to replace. Either way, I have a $50 deductable for glass breakage, so, I figure I'll take the new glass. While they insurance company agreed to let me get a new glass, they'll probably get even with me when my next premium is due. I'm requesting the repair facility order the windshield from the dealer. I'm just hoping they do a quality job. They talked like the windshield was about $400. Surprised me. I figured it would be easily twice that much. No idea what their labor charges are, though.

its about gouging and lack of ethics by some greedy dealers-just because its covered by insurance shouldnt mean that they can rob us!

Hi all,
So I had the glass replaced today... at work. Glass Doctor came out and installed it.

If I brought it to the dealer, it was $989 plus labor. As mentioned, I have a $500 deduc... across the board so total price means nothing. I changed this yesterday to $0. Didn't even know I had a deduc until this happened.

Anyway... Glass Doctor tech picked my glass up from... MB Atlanta Classic Cars Dealer. He said he thinks it runs Glass Doctor about $550-$600. Total bill was $888 for glass and labor. I paid $500 and All State Ins picked up the rest.

The only reason I went outside MB Dealership was it would have been a PITA getting cross town on Monday... drop it off.. get the rent a wreck... then go back and get it.

Glass Doctor warranties all work and besides... my ride is leased... AHHHH I love not owning a car... hahahah
