It's not you, but it's not entirely technology either. The 5.5 engine is, as it happens, more advanced than the 5.0 engine it replaces. Still, the increases in power across the M-B line (look at the E63 vs. the E55) are driven more by one-upmanship games with the competition from Munich than by pure technology. That's how the BMW 540 became the 550. M-B and BMW are free to play that game because their V8 customers are relatively unaffected by increasing fuel prices. And so it goes.

wow, the sport package w/ the two tone interior looks great! I've seen a couple reviews of the SL550, and all had a 4.9 sec 60 mph time, surprised the E550 wasn't faster since it is about 400 pounds lighter. Guess it has to do with the wider rear tires and better testing conditions with the SL

The E550 in the Edmunds test referred to above ran a 5.2 second 0-60 on Continental ALL-SEASON TIRES! The SL550 tires are not only wider, but are a much higher performance compound. I would expect improvement from the E550 with similar tires.

ya, i noticed that too, didn't look too good. I've noticed our E350 has quite a bit of lift when accelerating too, and it doesn't have to be full throttle. You'd expect a very softly sprung car like a Lexus LS to do that, but not an E-class, the suspension tuning isn't that soft.
