Navigation DVD Updates

I have a 2003 E500 and was interest in updating to the latest version.
- How do I know what version on the software that I have?
- How do I determine what version I can update to?

Thanks in advance.

The Version you are using is printed on the DVD (label) thats in the trunk mounted Navi DVD drive.

I think the latest version is 2006.1 .

Unless you live in or drive in an area where the roads have changed about a year or so ago, (Boston big dig area, or in an area that is rapidly being created or built up) the maps will be the same. The Restaurant list may have changed though. (And they are not really comprehensive, up to the minute lists)

I took a look at the disc. 2005.1. It's probably not worth updating.

I wouldn't replace it till its over 2.5 years old AND there is a lot of new construction/development. The POI restaurant lists are not important to me.

I update any time I can. All you need is a friend with a newer version and a DVD burner.

Isn't that considered piracy/stealing?

It may be, I don't know. I know I paid $2000 for the NAV, so something is mine.

Correct, according to NAVTEQ (supplies map data for MBUSA) the next DVD update is due late SEPT into early OCT 06.

You might want to be careful with the update. If you have one of the 2003 Nav replacement vehicles that enable you to see DVD movies as well as the Nav display, I believe there was a post earlier that said they used an updated Nav DVD and lost the capability of seeing DVD movies. Not sure about this; however, I'm satisfied with my original Nav DVD and agree with the other forum posts that said the updates are of little value unless you have had a lot of major highway construction near where you live (or travel) and use the POI's a lot. I'm not all that imressed with the accuracy of the newest Nav DVD which a neighbor has as it still doesn't have the best restaurants in our area that have been opened in the past two years and misses one of the major new freeway intersections. Recomment you save your money and keep what you have unless you see the newer Nav display and believe you can benefit from it.

Jangy....you've tried this and the copy works ?? Interesting that they are not copy protected. I'm making a back up
of my disc to use in the car then and keeping the original in the house.

Also interesting that the original disc (2005.1) is just a single layer, 1.05 gb !!
All this time I thought that it took 6 or 7 gb, dual layer discs to hold the info for the whole U.S and Canada.

I agree Jangy... as much as we paid for our vehicles and accessories.. I feel a little nav dvd piracy is allowed.
