Can Anyone in USA w/2007 E w/Nav Confirm.....

Someone had mentioned a new feature is the ability to constantly display the time and distance to destination along the bottom of the screen. If true, could you please tell me the version of your navigation DVD? eg. 2006.1

I'm trying to detrmine if this can be upgraded on a pre 2007 via software update on the disc and/or Command software update.

Thanks

The brand new 2007's that came in to my dealership this week have version 2006.1, which is too bad since I heard there will be a newer version released in late September or early October. My 2007 is due in about 3 weeks. I hope I get the newer version.

HOW do you tell the SW Version?

I have an 07 e350 as of two weeks ago and my nav tells me the destination arrival time at the bottom. Id like to tell you what version I have, if you can tell me how I can find out.

Thanks

Open the trunk and remove the cover on the left (driver) side of the trunk where you will find the DVD drive for the navigation. Press the eject button, and then remove the DVD. The version number is on the disk. Let us know which version you have, please.

2007 Nav...

Arek,

While your at it, can you tell me if you are able to choose the type of route you'd like (e.g. shortest distance, fastest, etc.). Of all the things i wish the nav had - this is the biggest flaw IMO.

thx.

...and also if you are not in the most zoomed in position, do you see any street names? This is important to me... as I can't stand being zoomed in all the way, would be nice to diplay major street names one or two levels up.

NAV DVD Disk

I hope to upgrade my NAV to 2007. My NAV is a 2004 E500. The dealer told me to check back after 10/25 to see if they are in. Will the 2007 DVD work in my e 2004? He stated that this 2007 version is nice and is a significant provemnt. (BMW already has the 2007 on their vehicles)

I believe I read in a prevoius post ( barry45rpm ?), that upgrading a nav disk in an '04 to ver 2006.1
crashed his command and it had to be reset by the dealer. My preowned '04 came w/2005.1 and it works fine.
Apparently tne NAV unit is different from '06 onward and that accounts for the improvement, not just the disc..

Maybe someone else can confirm the above problem.

I'm confused, is the whole upgrade a matter of just putting in the new disc? or is this firmware that has to be done to the actual COMAND? I've got a later 2005 Comand and I've just ordered a 2006.2 disc, will I get more than just updated maps?

Well, a little bit of both. If your single slot CD can recognize/play MP3's then you should be OK firmware wise.
Your 2006.2 will ONLY give you updated maps. It doesn't do any kind of update to the firmware.

The ETA clock and Distance you mention is much more important a display than the number of satellites watching you and altitude. It IS in fact displayed once a destination has been entered and the route begun on my '07.

The NAV disc in the trunk simply contains map data, creates a Route and calculates milage between start and end points, every time a Route is planned & used, and NOT what bits of all the scattered data on the disk the COMAND chooses to diaplay on the 1st screen, or subsequent pages. (List driving route step by step screen, for example.) I'm SURE this is an operational change in the software within the NAV system, not the Road Map & Routing info on the disk.

Much like when you are using "explorer" on your computer, to see whats files are in a folder, you can choose what info about each and all of the files within a folder you want to display on that view or all of the subsequent windows you open. (Full file names, with or without extensions, Hidden Files, ALL documents or documents with an extension of .doc, .pdf or .wpd, for example) That display choice is user definable by you, All the info is always available, yet you decide what to display. Someone at MB decided that the '07s should show this info in the screen instead of the satellite/alt info. That is NOT user definable by you. Thats why the ETA clock is not there at the bottom.

Its a shame because it is more vital to the trip than # of Satelites and Altitude.

So, is there a way for earlier models- like my '05 E500, to be able to display distance/ETA type info through some other kind of change or upgrade? Even my '01 Nav shows the remaining distance at all times.

Yes. This IS disgusting! MB can certainly hire ANY engineers it wants.

They definitely DO trail Lexus in electronics. And, electronics are a BIG
factor to car buyers. Especially me! (I love dazzeling things happening
when I push buttons.)

I’m waiting for an 08, “just with the hope” of getting newer electronics.
(Mainly the Nav.) I know the sheet metal won’t change for 08. One can
only hope that the electronics will be freshened to the latest technology.
Maybe even a camara in the Parktronic. Wouldn’t that be a stricking MB
move!?

My observation of MB (and BMW for that matter) is that they dont upgrade electronics in ther cars often outside of a body style change.

I test drove a new 07 Lexus GS the other week and it has the 5th Gen (!!) nav/computer on board. It was like having a touchscreen PS3. Too bad they dont let you change destinations while the car is in motion by default.

Yes. It tells you the distance and time remaining (in my 2007 GL450). I just got my E350 (2007) Monday night so haven't got a chance check it out but I think they should be the same for the same model year.

There are only a few (4?) stupid choices.Avoid Freeways, Avoid Ferries... stuff like that. Not worth much. After 3 years, I finally figured out how to use the Detour Function. Although after I got thru the detour area & cancelled the Detour, there was no more voice prompts from the NAV unit as I continued on my route. I had to cancel Route Guidance and re select previous destination, and then with the new (same) destination, I got voice prompts again. TSK, TSK.

2018 S450, 2019 Range Rover LWB, 2015 Range Rover, 2019 S560 Cabriolet (awaiting delivery)
I just started messing about with my NAV system (my '07 was delivered to me today), and I have one problem which I can't figure out even with the manual. I have version 2006.2

What I want to do is change from 2D North Up to 2D Heads Up map orientation. When I press the "Display" soft key, all of my left side soft key options a greyed out and don't work. I see the setting I need to access, but the soft button is locked out. Tried with the car in motion, sitting in my driveway in gear with the break, and tried it in park. Nothing seems to unlock the left side soft buttons in Display menu.

Any ideas?? Am I missing something obvious?? Please post if you know the solution.
