2007 Have Built in AUX INPUTS!!!
Hi Peeps,
At lunch I was checking out my manual, and although It says NOTHING about the location of or operation of an AUX input, my nav screen has a AUX display button. I looked in the Glove box and sure in enough, right dab in the middle of it, there is a aux input jack! So I guess there is no need to add a "Ipod port" for a $321 option. Connect all mp's with the aux jack!

I believe the AUX jack was added with model year 2004. I don't know if the deletion of the cassette deck after MY 2003 had anything to do with it, but maybe somebody in MBUSA noticed that without a cassette deck, people couldn't input their portable devices by wire unless the car had an AUX jack.

If by iPod port you are referrring to the MB Ipod interface, I will tell you, for what its worth, that I experienced a significant improvement in sound qaulity after first having used the aux input and then having the interface installed. Of course, as you probably know, you then lose the ability to connect any other device to your system.

Is that AUX port just a jack for sound input? So using a cable with a stereo jack on both ends such as this:
I'm pretty sure that the actual Ipod interface will provide better sound and the ability to control the tracks on the Comand. But is it worth the funds? I guess it depends on the type of music you listen to.

2003 E500
Well, my first 03 E500 did NOT have the aux input.. and had the cassette deck (no nav), but my "replacement" car has NAV.. AND the AUX input. I reality.. it probably is an 04 E class MINUS the 7 speed tranny.... they built it late for the MY03 and I took delivery of if right off the boat in July of 03. Placed the order for it in May that year... so built probably in June is my guess.
