I need a simple, durable and economical car which is easy to repair and has cheap spareparts. So I drive a old peace of **** W124 200D.

My wife chose it:

I wanted a SAAB 9-to-the-5th-power wagon.

I guess for starters, MB's kind of run in the family:
W123 - 250
W126 - 500se
W126 - 280sel
W163 - ML320
W211 - E320
I really wanted a car that was comfortable, safe, & had some class!!!

I don't have to fill up every other day (when I was doing 153 miles a day) and I believe its a safe car. It looks good, feels good and drives extremely well.

I was stationed in Europe thru the mid-80's and had the oppurtunity to drive several MB's, BMW's and Audi's while I was there, couldn't believe how stable and easy they were to drive on the autobahn, the Mustang I had shipped over was nothing to compare of course. Told myself then when I could afford it a MB would be in the garage. Well now I have 2 and will upgrade that to 3 when I can find a decent deal on a GL550 to replace my Yukon.

My daughter in-laws father was visiting a while back and he's a service manager for Nissan, drives (well drove) an Infinity, was telling me how the Infinity is just as nice as the MB's. I tossed him the key to my wife's E550 and said take it for the day. When he got back he asked if all the European models drove like that, told him yeah, most do, you can't go wrong with the BMW or Audi either, they are all solid and overbuilt. Next time he came to visit he was driving and M5, says he won't go back to being overcharged for a Nissan again.

Fascination with MB started in Junior High, Its all about the diesel engines. 7th grade English teacher drove a drab gray 220D. Then parents friends in 1983 got a brand new 300SD and let me drive with just 700 miles on it, then neighbors had one, I instantly fell in love. I had a couple of diesels after that GM, VW. But in 2005 picked up 1997 E300D from second owner, and I was hooked for sure. The purring sound and MPG is like no other.

CLK & GL
i got mine because i love torque and BMW just doesn't have any...
and as for reliability i am now at 70k miles and have yet to have a problem. The only problem i had is that i had to change the ignition coil on cylinder 5. I beat the crap out of the car so im pretty sure that says alot for Mercedes reliability

took the words right out of my mouth.
Although mine is almost a garage queen, it still manages to call out for TLC.

Basically my father. He owned 1989 420sel. 1999 s500. 2002 s500, and now 2007 s550. He is a car dealer and drove many other cars, including caddies, town cars, windstars cayennes, x5's and so on. Growing up as a kid, I found the S class to be my favorite (the comfiest to fall asleep in the back seats on long trips). As I got older I began to appreciate the speed and stability (like a tank on wheels), and later on, I noticed how different people perceived me. Surely enough when I got older I bought a 2003 e500 as my first benz and loved it. I switched to a jaguar xjr after that car, and it broke down on me. Which finally pushed me back to Mercedes.
