Why not just trade for an E500 or 55. Putting money into performance mods on the 6 cyl is just stupid.

first of all. you are such an *******! I am NOT stupid for asking that question??
I just finished reading all of your posts Mr. and I realize now you work for MB. Its obvious after spending ten min reading your post history. You work for a dealership or the corporate element.

Constantly urging those to bring it to the dealership, and "spend the bucks" on a the repairs etc. Its really quite transparent.

I am not buying a new car and your response isn't a solution. Unlike you company men, most of us actually "purchase" our cars. We can't just get a new company car like you.

Right??????

Actually - the advice you've received is sound. It would be a waste of money trying to mod the E320 when you can simply upgrade.

yeah, it may be sound but to be called "stupid" for suggesting it is rude?
sorry I believe there is a polite way to suggest that the cost outweighs the benefits. Would you agree?

Honestly - there is a difference between saying "you dumbass - don't waste your money on modding the E" and saying "it would be stupid to spend money on trying to mod the 6 cyl for more performance".

It could have been worded a bit more diplomatically - that I do agree on.

Even with a chip, exhaust and intake the 6 wouldn't really be much faster and the money would be better spent on getting a faster car while maintaining your warranty, etc.

No, I do not work for MB or a car dealership. Your resonse is actually rude. I am a retired airline pilot and have owned several businesses. You must still be in High School. And, it is stipid to spend money on a 6 Cyl Benz for performance mods. All of my cars are purchased by me and I have bought 5 of them since 1998. So your research has been a failure!!

sold - w211 e320, f250, rx7 race car
wow.....

Back on topic and answering the guys question:

There are very few options for performance mods on the e320. Anything of substance costs lots of money, there are no easy and cheap performance tricks.

1. Kleemann $1k-$15k + install
2. Renntech $1k-$15k + install
3. Powerchip ECU $1k
*approximate prices

All 3 offer the ECU, it won't do much though for an E320, maybe 20hp. The only real performance IMO is the Kleemann setup with supercharger, cams and ECU. It's not cheap, you can probably get a E55 for the same price when you are done. It'll put out 370hp compared to the stock 220hp. That's equivalent to a W210 E55 but out of a six cylinder.

That's about it, I'm sure I have left out some odd's and ends such as K&N filters which are debatable as safe or not, exhaust which won't do really anything but change the sound, etc.

Personally I do not think it is stupid to do performance mods to an E320. I am considering doing the complete Kleemann package on my car. Why would I spend so much money to do enhance a V6 when I could just get a E55? It's simple, how many other supercharged E320's do you know of? There is not one on this or any other MB forum I have found. I'm sure some exist I just have yet to find one. There is a price for exclusivity, E32K would be pretty nice on the trunk. As far as warranty goes, I'd have it done at the dealer, it just so happens my dealer is a Kleemann distributor.

He finally is getting a pertinent advice from mbuskuhl! No reason to put a guy down when a question is posted. The reason he asked the question was because he was not knowledgeble in mod, right? No question is a stupid question. It may not be worthwhile to spend money to mod a V6, so tell him, don't call him stupid.

Brett, only a few companies are doing the MB mod so the market is relatively small and therefore it is expensive even for a V8 compared to other more popular make of cars. My current daily drive is a G35 and there are quite a bit of mod available at a reasonable cost. To mod a V6 MB is really not cost effective in your case. Hope this helps

If you read my original post on this you will see that I did not call him stupid but just the idea of what he wanted to do. Now, if asked I would call him arrogant and displaying no common sense. I even had offered an alturnative.... trade for a better performing Benz.

I do think sosh just called the idea of modding a 6 stupid not the actual person. In your case it would be better to look for an E500 unless you want a "rare" car. Good luck on your decision and let us know what happens!!

Did you read the thread? First because a 1999-2001 would make it a W210 and second, mods still aren't cheap. You would be better off with an E500 or E55, probably not that much more money and total out of pocket would probably be less. While adding mods would make it a rare car, it doesn't make it worth that much more. There are plenty of ads in the for sale section from people who dropped 10-20k in mods and are lucky if they get just a few thousand of that back in a sale.
