need input: e350 sport ok for mom?

My mother is getting a e350 4matic shortly. Unfortunately, the only ones that are quickly available are ones with sport packages. She drives an e320 4matic currently and is happy with the ride. Also, no 07 350s are available here to actually test drive. Sales people are assuring me that the ride is not significantly different. Do you think that the ride might be harsh for a 60 year old interested in a plush/luxurious ride?

Also I'm getting about $3000 off MSRP just over the phone. Has anybody done better than that in upstate NY?

Thanks for any input.

I have the E350 Sport and it DEFINATELY rides stiffer than the Non-Sport. I felt the difference when I test drove both. However, the E350 Sport does feel much more responsive in handling but if you are concerned about the ride, go with the Non-Sport as the Standard E drives much more bubbly.

Your 60 year old mother will want the Luxury version. She will not like the stiffer ride of the Sport. Be sure to let her purchase the car SHE wants, not the car YOU want.

thanks for the input byum and cyclerider

you guys have helped tremendously. although i knew what you said had to be true, i still needed to hear it from somebody else. this is not a car that i will ever drive so getting the sport pack or not makes no difference to me. i swear sales people will say anything to unload the easiest to obtain vehicle. anyway the luxury e350 it is for mom.

Very good choice. Whether she really understood the difference or not, my mother would also prefer the non-sport. Probably would come down to the brown wood and softer ride. Either way, she will be driving one of the most competent and safe cars on the road. Would love to put my mom in an E one day.
