resonating "chirp"

lately i've noticed a weird resonating noise that sounds like a resonating chirp or even like a trukey gobbling quietly and fast. It seems to be most audible at 40mph and you need to be on a smooth road to really hear. when you turn the wheel more than 45 degrees and go fast, like say on an off-ramp you can really hear it. I'm thinking it's the bearings but not sure. i took it to the dealer and they said it was a sleeve on the torsion rod end that needed replacement and on the invoce it said they could not reproduce the sound. My first words were "I'll see ya next week" cause I find it hard to believe that a torsion rod can make that kind of noise. I'm thinking more along the lines of loose bearings or it might be an out of balance driveshaft or even the brake pads chattering, but why they would chatter when you turn the wheel i dunno, which makes me suspect bearings. I'ts an '03 e320 with 50K and without 4matic. I lifted the car up and tried joceling the wheels and it seems like there is some play in the bearings. anyone ever have this problem???? any thoughts on this would be appreciated
