Is anyone else having the same problems?

Picked up my E500 last week and took it on a trip over the holiday weekend. I had two problems with the car and I was wondering if anyone else had experienced either of them.

First, the SRS light came on and the system said that the restraint and the teleaid systems were malfunctioning. Stopped into a Mercedes dealership along the way and they ran diagnostics on it. Interestingly, once the service tech restarted the car to pull it into the service area the malfunction notice went away. However, the diagnostic report showed the the teleaid system had gotten hot.

Second, twice the car failed to respond to depressing the accelerator pedal for approximately 4-5 seconds. This problem continued until I pulled over, turned the ignition off, removed the key and then restarted the car.

I am taking the car back to the dealer today to have them look at it.

Sorry to hear about the problems. Please let us know what the dealer says.

This is one of my biggest fears. Buying the first year of a new model and having to live with all of the little bugs. I hope this is not an indication of things to come for this car!

Yes please keep us posted.

Some thoughts. Please keep us posted.

I am wondering if something involving the systems on the car affected the accelerator. Do you have distronic and was it or cruise control on? How fast were you driving? Were you using the "tiptronic" and were you in a manually selected gear?

Was the hesitation possibly due to automatic downshifting and gear changing, rather than delay in the accelerator providing more fuel? I have noticed at relatively slow speeds on our '03 SL500 that when my wife drives, there is more delay to downshifting when she applies the accelerator than when I do. I think this is somehow due to the "adaptive accelerator" and/or "driver adaptive transmission".

Kevin, can you update us?

Kevin, have you had the MB dealer determine the problem? Can you fill us in? Thanks

The dealer still has the car so I do not have all of the details. My service advisor did call yesterday to let me know that they had fixed the acceleration problem. It was due to either a loose connection or a faulty connector. He was unsure as to which one it was, so I plan on getting the accurate story when I pick up my car today. I will let you know when I find out.

Welcome to the Mercedes Auto transmission. This so-called 'learning habits' tranny sometimes seems to hesitate before kick-down. It feels like the cars engine is spooling up and then kicking in. I hate that feeling - both my E430 and E55 did that.

Re: Is anyone else having the same problems?

I too am having the same problems, started car this morning and the SRS said it was malfunctioning along with SOS malfunctioning and my stereo was completely dead, no power whats so ever. Brought the car in and the dealer said it was some chip or module that takes care of all three things that went bad. The Service rep. said they had to order the module from back east and it won't be in till Monday.

Steveyoyo, I see you have the leather and wood wheel. Some posts have indicated it is difficult to get that wheel. Some who have even ordered it didn't get it. When did you order your car?

wood and leather steering wheel

Rayscar, I have emailed MB to inquire about the fold down seats and the wood and leather steering wheel. I asked about the availability of them and, when not available, the opportunity to dealer install and cost of same later. I assume you can't dealer install the fold down seats but that you can dealer install the wheel at a greater cost than the launch $500 (which would be a rip). I'll let you know, with a new post when (if?) I hear back.

Actually, I just ordered my car on Aug. 27th but the dealer called me three days later and said they had traded a 320 for a 500 from another dealership. They said a customer cancelled out on the 500. The only difference was the color and a few options. So I went down to look at it and the car was beautiful, I bought it on the spot. It came with the wood/leather steering wheel.

I don't have my new one yet (please, MB gods, release the 4matic early!), but I will say that I had a similar problem when I picked up my 2000 E430 4matic back in June of 2000. Sensors galore lit up my display. It turned out that when the car was PDI'ed, they must have failed to insure that all of the fuses were securely installed, and that solved the problem. I think the downshifting difficulty you are experiencing is precisely the adaptive nature of the beast. Good luck!
