Thinking of buying an E500 have questions
Hello new member here! My wife and I drove the E500 last week and loved it.I have heard that these cars are prone to electical defects but have not heard anything about the drivetrains. How are the 5.0 V8 engines holding up? Are there any known problems with these? Also how are the transmissions and rear ends?
Thanks,Chris

In general, the mercedes engines and drivetrains are bulletproof. They had a few software glitches early on the 7G tranny but that has been sorted out. I have never heard of any problems on the newer rearends. Rearends of 2 decades ago had leak gaskets. Electrical glitches do come and go but get sorted out as time passes with new software/firmware updates.

What year e500 did you drive????
After 36,000 miles and nearly three years of ownership I can still say I very much enjoy driving our (ok, my wifes) 04 e500... The engine runs perfectly and has never missed a beat. The seven speed tranny is awesome and really compliments the engine on surface streets, but especialy the on the hiway. We average close to 19 MPG and have seen as high as 27 mpg on the longer cross state trips. The car has been near flawless and rarely see's the shop.
Goodluck with your purchase.

2003 E500
I picked up my 03' E500 in late July. After taking it to the shop twice to get the software redone, it's a charm! If you have compared the 500 to the 320, you'll notice the big difference in power! Good luck~

The car we drove was an 03' with ~ 24500 miles on it.
Well,we drove an 06 E350 and looked at an 07' E350 Sport. The 333 package is a great value which really makes the car standout, a Zero cost option which comes with 18" wheels and some other things I can't remember. At this point Im really considering waiting a year and getting a 07' 550 Sport when the 08's come out.I would like to get one under $48k if possible.
