Bluetooth questions?

I am finally picking up our E550 on sat. I have decided on bluetooth. Are people having good luck with this, In terms of integration and sound quality. I will be using a razr cingular phone. Also is it correct that I can just buy the module and plug it in myself. And lastly what price have people been paying for this I just called Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach and they want $510.00 for it.
Thanks for any help

$510 from Fletcher Jones sounds about right...for them!

Try $350.00 from http://www.wireless4mb.com/ . This is the official MB site for phones and accessories. Also, they have compatibility charts to compare against your particular phone and carrier.

Provided that your car has the phone system installed and is only missing the MHI component, you can just connect the Bluetooth interface and be on your way. If you don't have the base phone kit installed, plan on spending around $1,000 + the Bluetooth interface.

jschade is correct. With only MHI, I paid $350 for my Bluetooth installed by dealer. Works great with my BlackBerry 8700C.

Integration with my Verizon RAZR is flawless, and sound quality adequate. From inside the car sound quality is fine, it's on the other end that it's merely adequate...although folks can hear you, you will sould a bit hollow and far away. If it's raining, they will have a VERY hard time hearing you (the mic is up next to the sunroof; all they will hear is loud raindrops).

As I understand it, 2007 models only need the Bluetooth module to plug-and-play. As the other guy said, don't pay more than $350 for it.

Yes, MHI works great. Now, my wife can't live without it

It will be integrated with your command center nicely so you can access the phone book and view call history from it. This will also display on the control panel on the dashboard.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the replies I found another dealer that will sell it for 350.00. I am stunned that fletcher jones just sticks it to people like that. Reading another thread about bluetooth problems I was wondering if anyone else had the problem of their car answering the call after it is parked in the garage. I would think the only way that could happen is if you leave the keyless-go key in the car?

thanks

It's a design flaw. Basically, the Bluetooth range is well beyond the car itself...50-100ft, depending on the surroundings. Therefore, if you are near the car, the car's Bluetooth will pick it up, and your handset will be disabled.

Frustrating also when you are on a call and approaching the car; as soon as you are in range the handset will be disabled, and it may take you a few minutes to still get to your car, and then inside it, to resume the conversation.

All of this can be avoided if you disable Bluetooth on your handset, but then you have to enable it again later.

I use the Bluetooth with the Motorola v551 (Cingular) and despite disabling the Bluetooth on the handset, the car still controls the incoming calls till it eventually switches off. Also, it does this for MORE than a 100 ft. range. Although this is the only pain the the **** with the system, I am otherwise satisfied with it. The Bluetooth system on my BMW is better, however.
