Thinking about Parktronic...

I won't be ordering my E500 until December because my ML430 lease runs through February 03, however in preparation for the big day I have built my E a million different ways.

The last option on the fence is Parktronic. I don't need it but my wife has backed into our neighbor's car a few times and has trouble judging when the corner clears a parked car and such.

Never having operated such a system, my question is how well and under what situations does the system work best? Does Parktronic monitor the corners when paralell parking or just straight-on front and rear distance. I drove a 97 S600 coupe with it once but was too thrilled with the V12 to care about the parktronic system.

So far here is my future baby.

E 500
Phone with Voice Activation
Command / Navigation
Rear Sunshade
CD Changer
Heated Seats
Sunroof and Harman Kardon Package
Sport Package
Alabaster White with Ash Interior
Parktronic (Maybe) [COLOR=red]

I am trying to keep my lease payments sub $1000 so any advice on Parktronic would help.

the device is very good.....there are 10 sensors overall, 6 in front, 4 in back. And it does get good sensing in corners and stuff.....you can turn it off when ever you want to...like in a trraffic jam....it works when the car is going under 9 mph. We got that as our # 1 or 2 option.....we dont want to hit anything with a 70 grand car...i would get it if i were you..plus it is in the front and the back...the system tells you with lights above the dash, and by the rear windshield...it also uses tones..i am not sure of the range in feet, but im pretty sure its like 5 feet or something

Thanks for the info. Looking at the sales brochure, it appears the readout on the E is in the center of the speedometer.

The S600 that I drove however did have these amber "meters" in the center of the dash and above the rear window.

really??? on the peedometer, i think your talking about distronic...the speed control....the front readout for the parktronic is right by the front windshield....but i dont know, they might of changed itsince u have the brochure, go to the page in the end where it says 10:28 p.m. and shows 5 small pics on teh top of the page, if u look at the front windshield in the interior pic..u will see this small thin red loooking thing right by the winshield...thats for the front, the rear is right by the rear winshield, on the top part of it

The parktronic is an excellent device with a very good sensitivity. I just took a picture for you to see where the visual readouts are (front and back indicated with red dots). The readout in the speedometer is that for the distronic.

hmm...parktronic is good and all, but it keeps beeping during the rain...or whenever someone walks beside your car. my dad has it on the S500. it gets annoying, but good tool.

that's true that you can turn it off..

but when you're sitting in the S....everything is out of arms length, and the massaging seats make you too lazy to reach out..heehee

I'm getting it as it's very handy if you become distracted.

Thanks Everyone for your info. Looks like I'll be adding Parktronic to the list and $32 to the lease payment

Kassav thank you for the photos. I want the ash interior with the Sports package and was happy to get a close up look at how the two look together.

My wife does not like the black wood trim but b/c I am the car freak she is going to defer to me on this one.

Thanks Again!

$32??

How can that be? The parktronic option is only $1,000.

Maybe you have it confused with the $3,000 distronic option, which I think is a waste for S. Florida traffic because:

If you set the distronic at the 50ft. min. distance/space, people would just cut in -- all the time!

I am certain, that driving behavior in most metropolitan ares is similar.
