Phone Stolen...Need Help
Our car had a Motorola V710 that was stolen. We still have the cradle.
Since the V710 is now an obsolete phone, what are our options?
1. We have a non-MB V710...by old phone. Can it be upgraded to work with the MB? Can one of the bit-twiddling packages make it work?
2. Is the V710 still available from MB? If so, does someone offer it at a discount?
3. Does MB offer a newer phone? If so, which phone is it and does that phone require a new cradle?
Can our car, a July 2004 MY05 E320 CDI be modified to use Bluetooth phones? We were told that the MY05 cars still only worked with MB phones even if they were Bluetooth.
Thanks,
David

I have what I believe is the phone you want. Its an MB from an 02 ML500 that I traded a year ago. Has charger, manual, belt clip and spare battery. Worked just fine but was not compatable with my 06 ML500. It was used on Cingular. PM me and we can discuss it. I will confirm the model of the phone in the meantime.

The V710 is available from MB / www.wireless4mb.com, unless you are interested in VCast service from Verizon, it's fine. Since you already have the cradle, it could be your best choice.

Unfortunately, this is seeming to get worse not better.
I checked eBay. Hundreds of V710s, but none for an MB.
Talked with AWS (wireless4MB.com). A V710 is $525. Unchanged since 2005. They are now selling an E815 for $349 that appears to be an upgraded or modified V710. It is not clear weather the different model cradle for the V710/E815 is the same as the previous V710 cradle. It might be, but no straight answer.
A Bluetooth adapter is available. However, it appears to kill many features including voice recognition (which isn't too great to begin with), and features like call waiting and 3-way calling. It doesn't use the car's antenna, limiting the signal, or charger, limiting use without an external charger. MB also only certifies certain phones. It hasn't gotten to my K1m (although I'm sure they will). It is $325.
We had insurance. I'm not sure what it will cover.
It seems the E815 or a used V710 is the best answer.
We should have called the phone and offered the thief $200 to get our stuff back.

Get what works in the car
You might have to bite the bullet and get a V710 from Benz. You get to use the amplified antenna signal, the heads up display, etc. Once you pay for it, it's done. The phone has the Benz software in it that interacts with the car.

The E815 is an upgraded V710. Apparently the generic one is MB cradle compatible. Does it also provide the MB V710 integration?
My guess is Verizon's disabling of the V710's OBEX features caused the need for a special MB version. The new phones have these features enabled.
Does anyone actually have one and know for sure?

The above info was supplied by Magic0309D in another thread in this forum. Based on his expert advise, I bought a Motorola E815 on Ebay for $125 and cradle part number B67875844 from my dealer for $220. The setup works flawlessly, including text messaging on the COMAND screen.

There's a new Mercedes V710 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/MERCEDES-BENZ-MO...QQcmdZViewItem but it seems pretty high since the last 3 used ones sold in the low $100 range.
