2003 E500, 2004 G35X
3 years after I purchased my current E, I have decided not to purchase any German made luxury cars. Audis and Bimmers are no better than MB in the reliability area, I think Audi is even worse. My current daily ride, 2004 G35X, has never been to the dealere for ANY repair issues after 34K! I have the E for almost 4 years and I have a file almost an inch thick of service records! You tell me whether I should buy another MB.

I checked your prior posts to see what the A/C problems were. I found you reported what sounded like the compressor stopped and a reboot brought it back. Did this happen repeatedly?

You also reported problems of not enough, or no air flow from the center vent.

But the thing that stands out the most is your dealer's position seems to be "no trouble found". Most of us would have trekked to another dealer for relief. But it sounds like you didn't have that option.

I'm lucky to live in Chicagoland. I know I can get service from more than one place for any car I might purchase. I am VERY polite, patient and thankful when I deal with service staff. I don't want to **** them off as they can wreak more havoc on me than I can, them.

Oh i'm with Cairorex on this one, even though i dont have an MB currently. But i think for some odd reason which i cannot explain to myself either. I think i might go back to MB at some time or another in my short life. The ride in these vehicles are unparallel to any japanese cars. My Camry rental just doesn't bring out the same joy that my E brought it to me.

In my experience you are wrong assuming the BMW's are "no better than MB in the reliability area." I have owned both extensively, and my BMW has been trouble free......one recall in 5 years of ownership for ignition coils that took 20 minutes to replace....other than that, NO problems. The Mercedes was in the garage frequently for all manner of things. Then the transmission failed at 24,000 miles. The difference in quality between the 2 cars is night and day.

Let's not remind Desibaba of this sensitive topic.

Don't know what you were hoping from this post, but glad you made up your mind and moved on. Keep one thing in mind. As a consumer, you have certain rights. I find it hard to believe that MB or the dealer did not meet those standards and simply chose you to make an example of.

I can understand his frustration with a troublesome car. You have to remember that even MB acknowledges that they have fallen from the top position in terms of quality and customer satisfaction. Usually when something like this happens it is a slow long process, but in MBs case it seemingly was overnight, starting around 2003-2004 or so. The dealers have their hands full keeping cars on the road & out of their shop. Customers and Service departments were never used to this in the past.

Its a stunning, stinging fall from grace, and unfortunately takes longer to climb back up than it did to fall off the mountaintop. Some of us, caught in the mess are faring better than others. Those that are having minimal problems with their cars are enjoying their purchase, and those who are getting "beaten up" get really angry and hurt. Not every car they build is a dog, and likewise, not every car car they build is good, let alone great.

I can understand his feelings, and he's only venting to a group of "friends" here on the Forum. Even that helps a little.

You've got to believe that MB is serious about regaining their "world class" title... but thats not gonna make him feel better now.

how do you rebuilt the brand image...that is worst part of the quality issues...it tooks decades for the people to know the mb s are reliable good cars, so as to pony up the premium price tag,,...now that its image is busted..do you think MB can repair its image enough to justify its premium prices? that is the biggest challenge DR Z faces ...

I think Dr. Z is also in charge of chrysler and dodge. I doubt MB's quality slip is his number one concern. MB sales look pretty good compared to the US divisions.

While Joe Public has associates quality with Lexus, I don't think he see's MB at the bottom of the quality ladder. My friends sure like my MB and think it's a tank, etc. And trust me, I don't mention it might not be.
