Ready to Fire - Do I get the panoramic roof?

I am ready to go on an E550 -

Netstar found almost what I was looking for

040 Black (I know I said I would not do black, but damn it looks good!) w/ Black/Cognac Brown, Sport, P2, Wood Leather Stearing Wheel, Side Window Screens, Split Rear, iPod integration(already in it..weird)

The fluff is Voice Control (could care less), and the panoramic roof.

I have searched through the forum, and I think the consensus is it is ok, but there seems to be quit a few rail replacements. Would those of you who have it get it again?

I am also wondering since I have never purchased a MB new, how much off of list would be likely. At least in OKC, they are not moving. I have been test driving the same two for a couple of months now. But I know also by the NetStar search (thanks for the info on that btw) that these are few. The dealer told me it is due to the S550 taking all of the engines. Can't make enough of them. Or it could all be b.s.

Do no, Do NOT, DO NOT get black!!

Only get black if you like being a slave to your car's finish and can take it NEVER looking clean or streak/swirl free. It's too much work times 10. You WILL regret it.

My wife has a Black Navigator - trust me I know. And I swore I would not get another black. It just looks so good, albeit for only a day or two. It is also the Black/Cognac interior. My wife feel in love with it. But I might change my mind; again.

Dear lord, don't get black My 02'E55 is black and I would never do it again. Go with obsidian black or opal black. Being metallic paint it should reduce amount of the swirl marks. Personally I like the panoramic roof and the VC. I make most of my phone call through VC and it is very convinient.

keep in mind benzoink that the paint finish on the mercedes is much different than the navigator. The Mercedes-Benz uses PPG CeramiClear Clear coat which is incredibly scratch resistant. This will not swirl nearly as easily as traditional paints. I think you will be ok with black.

I agree 100%, the roof lets in so much sunlight and lights up the cabin so good, all the people that ride with me comment on it. Get the roof and the black, I love my Obsidian Black

Here is why I didn't get the panorama roof:

There is nothing more annoying than a luxury car that rattles.

Granted I have only had the car for 6 weeks but no rattle here at all and I have asked my service guy here if he has to deal with this and he says no one has ever complained except for the top on the SLK models after 6 months

So far with the E63 no rattles after almost what 1.5 months of ownership. I only had the rails replaced on my E55 once for a small rattle.

According to the dealer, the Black is non-clear coat and the obsidian black is clear coat. Even showed me that the door handles on the Black are actually obsidian black. Do you think that both are clear coat?

Lots of votes for the Panoramic. This definately seems to be a love it or hate it thing.

Thanks again for all of the help to everyone.

Get the Pano-roof.

That is the one thing that I wish mine had. My next benz will definately have it.

I must disagree with Kar's claim that the new paint has less swirls (m)

I've seen WAY too many new nano paint equipped black cars with horrible swirls and more. Black is just too impractical unless one lives in a rain/dust/snow/everything else free environment.

They have more E63's on the lot than E550's! There are 3 in OKC. All black BTW.

Got struck with a big case of Murphys Laws today. Look at the present a kind and thoughtful soul left me

Pano roof

I absolutely love my pano roof! I'm coming up on 4 years in January, and I've had zero problems with mine. Love it, love it, love it!!!! I would definitely get it again!

We're very close to purchasing 07 E350 sport and after reading the posts, as tempting as it is, we'll probably opt out of the pano roof. For my wife going from the convertible, it would have been great, but we're looking forward to a rock solid car, unlike the C70 and the thought of squeaks and rattles just isn't a risk we can take. We will drive this for a long time, and we wouldn't be buying now if we weren't having too many troubles now. The potential is too great in my opinion. Does anybody know how the noise level is between std moonroof and panorama when closed? Thanks.

Any new thoughts? Don't mind paying for it but don't want to regret it because of rattles and noise. Any idea how the noise level is between cars with moonroof and the panoramic roof? Closed, of course. I don't want to sacrifice the quiet luxury when it's not open with the wind blowing. Thanks. This is the only question I'm really facing.

The pano roof is a great feature and one that wows everyone who sits in the car. I also find it to be quite functional as well. So far it has not squeaked or rattled in the E63, and even in the E55 after the rails were replaced and lubricated very early into my ownership of that vehicle.

The car is super quiet when the roof is closed, and even when its open there is absolutely no wind buffeting, nor much noise. Its designed very nicely. MissMyBenz, get the pano roof, you will love it, as will everyone else who has to sit in the car. It creates a sense of openness, and spaciousness that is otherwise missing in the E.
