I have an 05 CDI. What life in miles is good to change air filter? Really can not go on appearence in my opinion as it may be more clogged than it looks.

Your maintenance booklet contains:
0980 Replace air filter element
Under normal dust conditions, replace air filter element approximately every 52,000 miles or 4 years. Clean air filter cover and housing prior to removal of air filter element.

It all depends on your driving conditions
2) Salty roads (snow belt cities)?
3) Do you live in a windy city?
Even when the filter looks clean you should dusty it every couple of months. Hit the rubber part on a hard surface a number of times. You will be amazed what came out. Dead flies. Pieces of dirt. Dried salt bits. I vacuum my air box when the filter is out too. Easy to do.
