Command in a UK E320 CDI ;)

Hey guys... well I've got a few questions and wonder if you can help me.

I'm from the UK and own a E320 CDI. Currently it has a single slot cd and 6 cd changer.

Is it possible to play mp3 on the existing unit?
Also does anyone know the model of this unit?

I've seen a few on e-bay for about £350 which is just the command unit itself... there are some for about £600 which include a gps and the navigation unit which i don't require.

Would it be possible to just simple swap the existing unit with this euro command ? I already studied on how to remove the existing unit, had a little play and took the ash tray out etc located the screws so all seems fine.

If i can simple swap will i get the MFD display working too?

Thanks

E320 CDI W211
Comand Audio

I am not sure on what you are asking..................
You state that you have comand with single slot (this slot plays dvd films and also mp3 audio files also standard music CD,s)
The six slot cd changer ONLY ONLY plays music CD,s NO DVD OR MP3 will play in the six slot(at least on the early models).
My car is a 2003 built.. july
It played dvd,s from day one in the single slot only.
The car had a firmware upgrade to play mp3 files ...which can be done with a computer to burn these files to disk.....again will only play in the single slot.

The firmware upgrade takes ten minutes at MB service it is done by inserting the firmware CD into the single slot which reprograms the comand to play MP3,s......again only from the single slot

Hope this helps.........E-mail......................leslierushforth@aol.com

my car doesnt play dvd's its just a single CD slot and is also a 2003 registered in september 2003. I think its one of the 'Audio' models? Only 1 CD with 6 CD changer no mp3 or dvd.

The question im asking is if its a straight swap or do i need a audio gateway? and if i do why? what is it.

You can change the "Audio" model to the Comand(european) that will play DVDs and MP3s or change the 6cd changer to the one it plays MP3s
The AGW is fine.

I just need confirmation because i was reading this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mercedes-E-CLA...QQcmdZViewItem

"PLEASE NOTE THIS PRICE IS ONLY IF YOUR CAR HAS A SINGLE CASSETTE PLAYER OR APS 50 NOT IF IT HAS SINGLE CD.

IF YOU HAVE SINGLE CD YOU WILL NEED AN AUDIO GATEWAY AND WIRING HARNESS UNIT AT AN EXTRA £400."
Mine is a single CD... so will i need this audio gateway and wiring harness unit? When i say single cd its not a command or anything its just a normal cd player with a 6cd changer.

That's certainly a cryptic comment. I thought that audio gateways were a standard thing in W211s. Perhaps not on some Euro versions? Sorry, I can't help.

Lots of other arcane info on this website, too.

it IS in Northern America (as all US/Canadian W211s come with an audio50 or comand)...it is NOT in europe as cars with a standard radio come with an audio20 and as of march 2003 (production) all audio20s have an integrated AGW.

The AGW is an interface between the display in the dash (which is only a display and CD/DVD player), the speakersystem, the radio receiver and it is also the brain for all audio related data.

Aftermarket adapterharnesses cost approx 250 euro and AGWs go for anything from 50 euro to 400 euro (with which you can be quite sure that the 50 euro ones are malfunctioning ones)...so 400 pounds in addition for an everything-you-need-at-once buy is not too bad.

greetingz,
