2004 Mercedes Benz E500
2004 E500 w/ E63 conversion

Purchased my 2004 E500 w/ AMG package that had been wrecked(looks much worse than it really was, no frame damage just body parts)
Repaired, and used Gary's E63 front end conversion. I was very pleased with the results and think it turned out great. Let me know what you guys think, thank you. Btw, just so nobody judges that I'm "spoiled", yes I am a 19 year old college student, and bought this and repaired completely on my own.

Fiat 500 Abarth
I've never owned a Mercedes, but always loved the E55 AMG. I also happen to really like Wagons. Now I know the E55 Wagon is ridiculously rare in North America, but a dealership down the street from our office has this beauty. I was driving by their lot and saw the front of what I thought was a E55. Jumped out to take a look, and it was a wagon! It's actually a 2004 E500 4Matic with AMG wheels, bumpers, exhaust, etc. I took it for a spin yesterday and LOVED it. Might trade in the Abarth on this bad boy.

To me, the car is 99% as it sits now. Maybe just another 3/4" drop at the front to balance out the wheel gap front to rear and that's it. Love the AMG wheels, bumpers, exhaust.

Nice looking conversion, definitely a great quality kit I plan to do soon as well. I would recommend going with the newer style rear view mirrors that would really set off the E63 front fascia, maybe accompanied by some red TTM Intake Scoops. And don't worry, there are definitely members here younger than you by a couple years - including myself.

I actually can't decide if I love it or hate it, but in any case that thing really stands out and I love the wheels. Lowered and slightly raked to the perfect height IMO

Experimenting with Plasti Dip here. Grayed out all my chrome (grille, hood ornament, fog light rings, rear badges, trunk strip, body side moldings, door handles) with their Gunmetal color. Had it for about a week, and so far so good--even survived a car wash with a pressure washer.

I kinda like it, nice subtle contrast. I think it'd look even better with some window tint. Your car is looking sexy btw, lovin' the whole conversion too!

Thanks Lemon. I agree about the tint. I'm a bit scared though, as I'd want to tint the fronts too if I were going that route. I've already gotten pulled over for exhaust, plus there's the lack of a front plate--I'm just wary about having another "strike" against me (especially such a visible one).

I've noticed that a lot of cops (at least in my area) usually won't cite you for the little things like tint or fog lights or front plates unless it's in addition to a bigger offense, like speeding or running a red light.

If you stick with a lighter tint then you should be fine. It looks so incomplete without it haha. I run 55w HID fogs and they're extremely blinding. I always see cops look at it, squint, then move on with their day. They obviously also see my tinted windows but could care less either. My mufflers sound brutally awesome during WOT but are very civilized during normal driving so I've never had a problem with that. Now I kind of wish I never installed my front plates after my conversion but it's too late now, because I'll be stuck with some ugly holes.

I agree tint will really set it off, as for me I went with a film that yields a VLT% just within the legal boundaries for my state and I do have 55W HIDs as well. Never been pulled over in my car even with the euro-plate. Same to my exhaust modification, at cruising speed it isn't more noticeable than most stock cars. Overall I wouldn't say the E-Class is a sleeper car, but I wouldn't consider it flamboyant enough to attract a lot of negative attention from the cops. Just be tasteful with you mods and it will serve you well

I'm in LA, so I don't know if the cops are just worse here or what, but I got pulled over for exhaust and nothing else, and I wasn't even going wide open either, just accelerating normally from a stoplight (note that I did a muffler delete). Good thing they didn't see the lack of front plate.

That being said, I am considering doing a 50% tint all 'round (I'm not a fan of the staggered tint look, and our limit is a high 70%). I think that'll be light enough not to draw the ire of the police, but my concern there is that it won't be "enough."

I've driven to LA a couple times, was probably the only few times I ever hit 25mpg in my car haha, it looks like cops always have something better to do than to give out fix-it tickets over there.

As for the exhausts, it does appear to give you a much better chance of getting pulled over. I know a couple guys over here in SF who's gotten pulled over many times solely because of loud exhaust. Maybe if you swapped for something a little quieter, your odds of getting pulled over significantly drop?

I actually have a pair of Magnaflows in the garage, stowed away and ready to go when my hand is forced.
