E550 Paddle Shifters?

From what i read paddle shifters are available as options on European E500s (E550 in US). Does anyone know what would be involved to add paddles to a US E550? Would just adding a wheel with paddles do the trick, or would the project require major league wiring to make the paddles work?

I dont know for sure but im guessing that just a steering wheel would be needed (with the paddles) given that you already have the shift buttons on the back of your steering wheel now. If you dont have the shifters on your steering wheel i doubt its possible without getting a new steering column module among other things.

but yes, the paddle shifters are sick.

paddle

No buttons on the wheel. Not an option on the E550 that I was aware of. Module replacement would cost? The paddles are cool.

I found this thread over on the SLK board. This guy has added a wheel with paddles and apparently it plugged right in, then they had to enable the paddle function using STAR. Hmmm!

Mark,

Spill the beans... what consists of adding the paddle shifters and most importantly, what is the cost?

The key to the cure edition E350 for 2007 (the one with the AMG package and the ver light leather interior) has optional shift paddles for 50 bucks. They are only available on those cars because those cars are the special amg sport package from germany and those cars can be ordered with the paddles while the rest of the non amg line can not. If we knew the part number for thats steering wheel, that wiring harnet, etc maybe an upgrade could be made.

It should be noted that these paddles are NOT like the amg versions. They are very small and located well inboard of the amg version.

Good luck

you have a 211 e55 and mark has a 2007 209 clk. THere is a difference there and that is why the paddle shifters work on mark's car and not yours.

Hi, sunman
If I have steering wheel with paddle shifter, it will work in my car(2005 germany version avantgarde , no factory ordered paddle shifter, 5 gear AT)?

Sunil,

I am not asking for me, but for the rest of the guys on this thread as they are interested in the mod. I am working on the same project but taking a different route as I already have button shifters.....

A simple question

Just purchased a USA 2007 E550 w/sport package. Would love the paddle shifters. ANYONE know if this is a reasonable question?

Do we have a verdict? Is the E550 able to get the paddle shifter upgrade?

Someone needs the paddle

So we have yet to be answered. Paddle shifters can be added, and how?

Adding paddle shifters on ANY mercedes from 2005 and up is as EASY as swapping the steering wheel, possibly swapping the SRS contactring (for some of the MB models - not for the E-class) and versioncoding the transmission control unit.

Adding paddle shifters on mercedes models from before 2005 is a bit more work and involves more parts to be changed...my own 2002 E220CDI (one of the first 7000 build W211s) currently has the E63 steering wheel (with the updated (and R230/W209/W219) airbag) and WORKING paddle shifters - so definitely doable...depending on the model and modelyear it is less or more work (cost).

So, if if I have an clk 1/2007 EU model (2008 US) with 7g-tronic gear box I can have paddle shift just changing the steering wheel with a paddle shift one, and offcourse with DAS reprograming, or need something else?

Thanks
