Bluetec Maintenance

The 2006 V6 has a first service interval around 12,000 miles or 12 months. What kind of service does the 2007 Bluetec require. I know it doesn't have the urea tank - that's coming in 2009. But do diesels need more maintenance than their gas cousins?

Your 12K service is an engine oil change.

Plus, lots of inspections.

Failure to pay dealer $250 to do this is penny wise and pound foolish IMHO.

A decision that you can afford a $55K car should be a decision you can afford dealer service, too.

My point is convenience, not cost. I'm amazed that I just have to visit the shop once after 12K and will be happy to pay the $250. My question is how often do you have to visit with a bluetec vs a gas model.

Lease or own?

If you are leasing your car, I certainly wouldn't want to buy it when you get rid of it. I firmly believe in changing the oil at more frequent intervals. Maybe that is why I currently have 329,000 miles on my 83 240D. If you own it, and want to keep it for awhile, a more frequent oil change is really cheap insurance.
