Gear selector in park, message warning ?

After driving about 15 miles today, shutting down for about 10min, when restarting experienced this : Shifting from Park into reverse the MFD displayed a message in red that the gear selector was in park, accompanied by a constant "beeping". Backed up and shifted into drive with the same message. Shut down the engine and with the key in position 2 selected all gears and the same message/beeping. Shifted into park and the MFD was normal.

Restarted and the message/beeping persisted. The car drove OK so I drove about 5 miles like this to a store where engine shutdown was about 10 min. Upon restart all was back to normal. Searched the forum and couldn't find any posts about this. Anyone experience this ? (hopefully a one time occurance)

Yikes ! Sometimes it's the simple things. Of course, begs the question why the message doesn't say "door ajar".
Thanks !

Yeah I had the same thing with my 07 E550 4Matic. I actually asked the dealer about it, and they said it was normal in my car because of the keyless go. Wierd huh...

I was at my dealer this moring on another issue and mentioned it to the shop foreman. He said that when the door is ajar, what the message really means is that you should put it in park. Leave it to the Germans to over complicate things.
