Speeding ticket

My wife has been cautioning me not to drive too fast ever since I took delivery of my new car a couple weeks ago. She says "just because you have a big motor, you don't have to speed".

Ironically, yesterday she got a ticket on a rural road about 3 miles from home. Radar got her doing 51 on a 35 mph road. In fairness to her, this road is very difficult not to speed on.

I did some interstate driving Sunday. The majority of the other cars around me were all doing around 75 - 80 mph on the 65 mph road.

Of coarse, *I* never exceeded the limit

In all fairness, very few of us here have ever exceeded "the limit".

If I'm not mistaken, the speed limiter is electronically set to 135 mph, the fastest I've gotten my baby to go (so far) has been 120..

..I had to spank 'er 'cause she was being such a bad girl!

Sounds like your wife got caught up in the MB phenomenon of the car feeling smooth at any speed. I find myself doing 80-90mph on the highway and not even knowing it until I realize I'm passing everyone!!

Regards,
paul...

I know that this has probably been debated several times, but I thought that limit was set to 155...

My '03 E500 is limited to 130, not 135, but M-B may have raised the limit with the E550. Limiter speeds seem to be pretty much dictated by the OEM tires installed on a car - if it came with "H" tires, you get a 130 MPH limit; if it comes with "V" tires, you get a 150-155 MPH limit.

Avoiding tickets

My Valentine 1 is hard wired and sits on my left dash. It has saved my a-- so many times on RURAL ROADS AND IN TOWN!!!! These jerkwater cops love to see someone going 37 in a 25. You're going to get a ticket in town, not on the highway. Buy her a Valentine( or Escort ) and get one for yourself.

My neighborhood is full of self proclaimed "responsible neighbors and concerned parents" who flaunt the local speed limits. While I'm certain there are appropriate non-profane words to characterize this type of driver, I can't think of any.
