Pulled the trigger on a stablemate for the E500
In an earlier thread I stated that I was thinking about purchasing one of these dune buggies. Well, I did it. The E will no longer have to sit next to a Lincoln in the garage. Anyone looking for a gently used Lincoln Aviator? I need to get rid of mine, now.
Here's the rundown.
2006 R500 w/3900 miles (Manufacturer's demo)
723 - Pewter
901 - Black Alcantara seats
R39 - 255/19" Sport wheels
143 - Sport Package
220 - Parktronic
244 - Sport front seats
317 - Comfort Package
320 - Entertainment Package: Harmon Kardon LOG
323 - Heating Package: Heated rear seats
353 - Airmatic
424 - Panorama roof
530 - DVD COMAND Navigation
536 - SIRIUS Sat
581 - 3-Zone Climate
739 - Aluminum trim
876 - Ambient light package
952 - Sportline
Total MSRP of 66,450
Worked a deal down to 43,000.00
Looks identical to this one:

23,500.00 off of sticker was too good of a deal to pass on. I couldn't afford not to buy it!
It'll be shipped this weekend from California and should get to Maryland in about 10 days.
Let the R-Class flames begin! I was a hater too...that is until I drove one. Guys, seriously thing thing is pretty damn nice for a....ehem....minivan.

Wow (Holy Chowder) ! That's some deal Benz-O, and with only 3900 miles, yikes.. Congrats.
Edit: From an MB Dealer and sight unseen (pics only) or did you have
someone look at it for you ? Damn I'm jealous.

The dealer had all kinds of pics up on their website but I never copied to my computer. The car is off of their site now because I purchased it but I've been assured that thing still looks, acts and smells brand new. I mean with 3900 miles, how bad could it be, right?

My Grandmother just purchased one of those, she's now able to get around easier due to the amount of space and easy loading of her wheelchair .
All kidding aside, Congrat's Clayton - did you get the sprintbooster for it yet ?

That thing is cavernous inside. I think the best seats are the 2nd row. I'd rather sit there than in the front. It's that big. I'll probably be getting a sprintbooster for it. I took the one off of my car since it's at the dealer getting the "B" service done. I'll pop it on her R when she's not looking and tell her I supercharged it for her so she can race Cayennes!
Sux it's gonna take so long to get here but it's worth the wait to save all the cash I did buying out West. My local dealer had an R500 with more miles priced at 52,999.00. I could only get them down to 46K and it wasn't even a Saks 5th ave edition. Most of the Saks editions are going for close to 50K right now with ~10K miles or so. I think they only made 300 of them.

Nice. By the way I'm not sure if the R is classified as a minivan.
My dealer's salespeople called it a crossover, i think he said it was between a SUV and sedan. But NOT a minivan. MBUsa calls it a SUV.
So if anyone questions your manhood...well, F*ck em. Whether its a minivan or not.
I don't want to rain on your parade, plus you've probably already considered this, but aren't demos test-drive cars? Which means people may "beat on them"?
Either way, your R is factory covered...so no worries and you've got a car you can load with Tv's and comfortably sit 6 or more.

Congrats on your new ride. It is a very nice vehicle and drives and rides quite well. My parents fell in love with it and almost bought a new 06 R500 a couple months back, but ultimately decided that as their only car (Dad has an F150) it was just too big. They're almost 80. They ended up buying a Lexus RX as it was the easiest (other than the R) for my mother to get in and out. ML and GL too high a climb. My Mom still mentions it. Beautiful vehicle. Enjoy and forget what people say.

She's on her way......
The enclosed trailer is picking it up this afternoon. I should be doing 4 wheel drifts in about 10 days.

I just had a R350 for two days as a loaner car while my E was getting a service D plus an ATF and transfer case flush.
I have never been much of an SUV person and I thought that the R class was a nice alternative to having an ML. This one had the Air suspension and rode very softly (even in the hardest setting). However, the ride was still better than most minivans I can remember driving. I don't know if I like the R's headlight design, but I thought that the car was a nice crossover.
On a side note, I can tell everyone who loves to blast the SBC brakes that I missed them when I was driving the R. I have been driving on Ice and snow for the last 4 weeks and this is when the SBC system shines. The R (and other non SBC cars including the new E) make a very loud ABS noise that is startling after being used to the almost imperceptible SBC ABS system. Also, when the SBC is activated due to the use of the ESP or the 4-ETS, you only see the warning light blink and don’t really feel or hear anything. The R's system (and most other cars) sure let you know that it was working due to the pounding noise and kick in the pedal. My E is incredibly smooth in spite of having the ABS, ESP and 4-ETS systems kick in on a daily basis. The R's system worked well, but it seems much more abrupt due to noise and vibrations. Also, the SBC brakes seem to be able to stop better when you are braking and turning at the same time. I felt as if the R's brakes were a bit more prone to locking up when I was going around some traffic circles in my neighborhood. The R class was very nice, but I really have come to like the way the SBC works on my E.
I doubt that you will notice all the things I did since you probably will not drive it on ice and snow. I did like the R and I enjoyed driving it, but I think that you will still lean towards the E.
Tell us what you think once you get it!
