2003 SL Launch Edition, 2003 E500 Pewter/Stone
Saw the E500 in Pewter and the Saks Fifth Avenue Edition CLK at Saks Tonight

I dropped in at our local Saks Fifth Avenue store tonight. Outside was a Brilliant Silver SL500 with the sport package, red interior. It was beautiful, but I doubt I would want the red interior.

More importantly, there was a Pewter/Charcoal E500 Sport Package outside as well. WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! The Pewter is just outstanding. I had only caught a glimpse of a Pewter '03 E up until now. I was able to take a lot of time to see it in different lighting, both in daylight and at night.

Pewter in any light is a very rich color and is very different. I have heard some say it is like the old Smoke Silver. I had a Smoke Silver 300SE. This is far richer looking and not as beige/gold. I didn't care for the Charcoal interior with Pewter and I am very glad I ordered our E500 in Pewter/Stone. Once again, I am blown away at what a beautiful design the new E is. It truly grows more appealing every time I see it.

They also had, in the store, a Saks Edition CLK. I think the special color is Platinum Blue, which is not otherwise available on the CLK. If that is Platinum Blue, or even close, all those of you who have an E on order in that color are in for a real treat. It is also an awesome color. The interior was Stone, a very winning combination.

There were a number of other new cars around the mall, including the X type Jag and the Lexus LS430. They were just uninspiring. MB has really surpassed all others in design and technology.

How do you think the Pewter would look with the Ash instead of Charcoal? Still have not seen pictures from anyone from my previous post....

I found the Charcoal too dark with the Pewter. While I can only imagine the Ash with Pewter, from the chip/sample in the "Big" E brochure it looks to me like it would be stunning. BTW, the CLK brochure indicates that Pewter/Ash is a standard combination, not a special order combination as indicated in the E brochure. I think the E brochure is mistaken as the "Build Your Own" feature on the MB web site does not indicate a "special order" charge when the E is specified Pewter/Ash.

darn...

i was hoping the charcoal was not going to be too dark of a contrast with the pewter exterior but that may have been wishful thinking. i have kids so the charcoal interior is a must! i currently have java interior and man what a pain it is to keep clean! hopefully i will see the combo soon and if it looks just too dark, then brilliant silver/ charcoal it is.

I have seen Pewter with Charcoal myself and think it looks fine, Pewter Met is not significantly darker (color wise) than Brill Silver, its just not as bright.

Best photo on this site I could find showing pewter/charcoal.....

i am also concidering the sport package which adds the black birdseye maple to the charcoal interior as well. maybe it won't look as bad as it may sound?

It will look great.....fairly light exterior color, dark interior color (leather/wood). Don't forget you still have the Ivory colored dials, aluminum trim, and chrome door handles to break up the black a bit. Overall, I think this combo would be a nice contrast.
