A Couple of Pix of the '07

Truth be told, any other car I was considering to replace my '04 E 500 Pales by comparison to this one. To be fair, though, if I can't keep this car out of the shop like the other one... what good is a magnificent car that you can't enjoy? Time will tell. MB swears they worked the problems out. I hope so. I do want to love this car. But so far (48 hours) its all one could hope for.

Thanks for taking the Pix Starbrite! Stop by tomorrow (Sat) for the Glove Compartment shelf fo your car. I forgot to bring it to work today. You meet the nicest guys here!

Glove Box is Different too

The interior of the glove box won't accept a shelf anymore & it has a large accordion type lip on the bottom so that stuff can't slide out with the door open under hard acceleration. So now there's "liftover" to get something inside. It makes the opening smaller.

I never realized that there is a grove in the glove box to fit in a shelf! Do you know how much a shelf would cost?

thanks

Actually, it's not grooves, it's a lip on either side that the shelf slides on to.

I didn't notice it until Barry pointed it out (like the button on the trunk.) Don't know the pricing

I got mine too long ago to remember. ($40 - $50?) Wish I could help. It came standard in the '03s. The side walls of the glove box have a thin black fuzzy "rail" protruding on each side about midway thru the light on the left side. It slides thru and into the sides of the shelf. The shelf is the "female" to the wall's "male".

The shelf is black & fuzzy on top with a chrome strip across the front visible to the passenger. Maybe when STARBRITE picks it up from me, he'll post a pic.

Fit & Finish are absolutely perfect. Better than my '04. The '04's glove box door had a wider gap at the top near the door than under the drawer. This one's even.

Its assembled to perfection by the guys on the line. Lets hope the engineers did their jobs too!

Great color. Have Fun and don't get to many tickets...

The button is there on the trunk unless they have changed the E550 in the past few weeks. If you put your right hand on the manual release like you are opening it, your index finger should be right on the button.

enjoy.

Nothing better than that New Car Smell! (New Mercedes Smell). Even makes the garage smell good... Beautiful car you have there. I've had mine just over a week now. Loving it!

Way to go Barry. Great color choice!
RE: Scanning presets from the steering wheel. On mine, I can NOT scan through the Sat radio presets. Pretty odd function to be missing, IMO. I just took delivery of a GL450 a couple weeks back, and the wheel buttons do allow scanning the SAT presets in the GL. Pretty odd that 2 brand new models have what should be a standardized feature set up differently.

Enjoy your ride!

Is it possible to update the COMAND system or electronics on <2007 Model year cars to include the updated features?

I believe it was done that way because in Europe, satellite is not an Option/not in the sky, so the guys never thought of it. But as long as you are writing the code for it, it couldn't have been that big a job to Copy & Paste those lines of code, so that the satellite did it too. With so many channels it would have been a real good feature to have. They have different teams working on different lines so one group doesn't know what the other is writing. (Pretty Costly, to duplicate work force, but cost is not an object there.)

enjoy.
The button on my '04 was a rectangular rubber button to the right of the raised trunk lid's squeeze handle. Its not there on this one... just body color painted metal, not even a blanking plate that would be put there to cover a missing optional button.

For some reason (besides the guard rail on the floor of the glove box shelf), the glove box on this one feels so much smaller. No biggie... as long as it stays out of the shop.

Installs in about 3 sec and is a real nice and functional touch...Thanks Barry !

PN is 211-689-06-30, cost is less than $15.00. Pix show top and bottom and, of course, in the car.

Note the 2 circled "female" holders in pic 2, which do hold the shelf securely.

No problemo. I liked it because all of the CDs fit on the bottom & the shelf left room for the normal papers & junk on the top. Enjoy!
