plastic crackin

I live in the Chicago burbs somewhat cold. with a 2005 CDI. I have had two wood grain plastic trim pieces crack so far. The trim ring around the shifter at about the 5-oclock position and then I noticed the wood trim on the drivers door near the door pull is cracked. Anyone else with this problem?

I just drive this car no abuse. I would find it odd tha the cold weather is to blame. The car is in the garage at night that is always above freezing. Yes we have some seroius pot holes in Chicago but comon now what gives?

Very funny timing. My E320 is at MB right now with the same "stress crack" at 6:00 position below the shifter. Apparently is not uncommon for cracks around the shifter...

Good news, its covered under warranty, but there is a chance the replacement wood wont match.

Interesting. Look closely at your door trim. The crack I had was very hard to see. Takes the right light & angle.

Will be interested to see how things ntch up.

My front passenger panel cracked between the door pull and the seat memory button. I had them replace it under warranty in July when I went in for service. My car is garaged 99% of the time, but it does sometimes park outside when it is -20 F. I have not seen any other cracks in the other wood panels yet.

My 1991 300E had a few cracks too but I had to pay to replace the panels. So far I have never had any problems getting the wood to match.

really is a shame that this is a common defect on such a car. Great that warranty covers it but at some point it will not. Someone in Germany was a sleep at the wheel when they disigned these parts.

Warranty

Would the MB extended 100K mile warranty cover this if you are over 50K miles? Kind of off topic here but does the MB extended warranty generally cover issues like this or the electronics of the car (sound, navigation, speakers, etc.,) that is covered by the initial warranty?
