So I'm about to trade in my 99 E320 for either an '03 E500 or a E320. Any known issues with these two models of that year? Any help would be great. thanks!

Try and get an '04 or newer if you can. My car had lots of little things go wrong (mostly electrical)

Reliability seemed to improve as the years progressed.

I felt like a software beta tester. I doubt that I will ever buy a first model year M-B again. The dealer was great about fixing everything and performing the recalls and giving me intersting loaner cars - they treated me extremely well. I just wish I didn't know my SA and one of the techs on a first name basis from being in the shop so frequently.

This may sound funny but that would actually make me buy an '03 now because I figure by now all those problems have been fixed by the previous owner so I don't have to hassle with it. I have a 99 model now and even though everyone complains about it, I bought mine used and I guess all those problems got fixed by the previous owner too. Just don't want to go over $26k as far as price. I can get an '04 E320 for that price but not an E500 which is what I really want.

John - I see your point but @ 30,000 miles I was still getting a lot of weird MFD problems.

Nothing seemed like it was permanently fixed. Just temporararily.

the ones I'm looking at are right around 45-60k miles. I'm guessing at that point those problems shouldve been resolved. How many miles are on yours?

How are you liking your '07? We got them on the same day. Did you notice that the manual says to keep the transmission in the "C" mode for the 1st 1,000 miles?

I just put mine up for sale.

And as you say it has all been fixed. The early days were trying, however in recent years, the car has run as a MB should run. The good news is too, all the emissions stuff has just been replaced relating to the purge system that was not covered by emission warranty so the new owner of mine will luck out with it. nevermind the fact the car is in excellent shape with newer tires and new brakes and rotors.

If you are interested give me a PM and I'll send you some pics and give you the details.

Thanks,

Randy B

Thanks for looking out Randy. Send me a PM with pics and a price on the vehicle please. I'm in Atlanta so I'm not far at all. Wouldn't mind driving south for a nice car. I need a break anyway.
