Recommendation !!

Hi,

I have a SL55 and a ML500 ... I drove a E320 today, and I was absolutely stunned.

The car is *seriously* quiet. You can not tell the ignition is on at idle, the new curvy dashboard and new shaped radio etc feels very "right".

If I was buying one, Id buy an E500 (purely because I know that Id find the 320 frustrating long term), but the 320 engine is actually very good and is pretty balanced etc ...

(Ive driven the CLK aswell before (CLK240), and wasnt nearly as stunned as with the E)

Cheers
R

(btw, as to quality, the speedo was broken, showed 60 mph minimum ... )

good to hear you like it, i would trade in the ml500 for it, and get the rear folding seats

My wife uses the ML (mainly to ferry the kids about), and she too was impressed with the E.

However, she likes the high driving position of the ML (and in fact, it improves her driving because she is looking further down the road)

What precisely do you mean by this? Can you please educate us a little bit more?

I think what he is getting at is that he has the SL55 which is a rocket and the ML500 which is a V8 and with all things considering, it too is fast. The V6 would be a step down and might not satisfy the appetite for power and torque he obviously has. I might be completely off base in my assumption, but just what I was thinking!!!!

I am in the same boat. I am coming from a CLK320 Cabrio, which I have had since May of 1999. I had intended to get a new '03 E320 to replace it. In March of this year, we were lucky enough to get a Launch '03 SL500 to replace another car. After having the V-8 for 6 months to compare to the 320, I now find that I would not be as happy with the E320 (which is a wonderful car and which I would have been delighted with on all scores if I hadn't experienced the SL500) as the E500. So, it is an E500 for us!!

Thanks jhb and MarcusBenz. The explanations make a lot of sense to me now.

Yup, Marcus has summarised it perfectly.

Before I went torque mad, I had a CLK320, and it was excellent. The 320 engine was seriously sweet - Then I bought a CLK55 and that spoilt me ...

It is worth remembering that MB have announced the SL350, so they will be replacing the 320 engine across the range for sure ..
