My negotiation process.....

I am currently working on a lease deal on a 2007 E350, Packages include white w/ black leather, p2, sport package, split folding seats, pano roof, voice control, & electronic trunk closer. M.S.R.P is $60,595.

i called rusnak here is Los Angeles, ca and he quoted me 10K off and he is going to call me back with some figures and i also talked to house of imports and told them i got 10K off and they are supposed to get back to me.

10K sounds a like a bogus discount to me especially since the car is out of town, but then again you never know.

If you can get 10k off on an E class please let us know. I am in the process of buying an E320 Bluetec, MSRP is $67.760
It will be the designo Espresso Edition
With: P2
Electronic Trunk Closer
Panorama Sunroof
Parktronic
iPod Integration Kit
Rear Side-Window Blinds
Split Folding Rear Seats
Voice Control
Wood/Leather Steering Wheel

I know I can get 7% off with Euro delivery less the 775 delivery, but 10k off is MUCH better.

Call Vadim @ MLBN and see what he tells you. He plays his numbers fair and will go over the figured with you slowly. I know it's an hour long drive from LA, but it was well worth it when I picked mine up. I had shopped around beforehand too.

That would be 16.5% below MSRP. I wonder what trick is up their sleeve.

16% is a virtually unheard of discount off sticker on ANY car... what's there to decide?

...unless of course they will be making their money on some crazy cost of money & additional "fees". In that case the salesman is just "Breaking your legs" (Dealer slang for taking you off the market & keeping you in the house.)

What can I say? I buy cars very frequently for the immediate & extended family. Its the "Thrill of the Chase"... Know what I mean?

Its nice to feel you've "won", even though you know somebody else paid 50 bucks less than you did! LOL

PS Still Lovin' the new one!

You don't negotiate from MSRP, you negotiate from Invoice. First thing you do is ask to see the Invoice. Then you go from there. If there is a trade-in, then everything gets hazy. First you establish a cash price and then talk trade-in.

At least one dealer here in the Phoenix area will give you an E-Class at Invoice if it's cash. Then you dicker over trade-in.

If it's the end of the model year, you get Invoice less trunk money such as cash-back to dealers. This is published by Edmund's if there is any to be had.

There will be a $600 or so add on to the Invoice in the SW to cover advertising. Some dealers also try to hang an administrative charge on as well. I've seen it range from $85 at Phoenix Motors to $280 at Mercedes Tucson.

Again, forget about MSRP. You need to know what the dealer is making to be able to play the game. Usually, a dealer will pay Invoice less 3, 4 or 5%. Dealers make more profit on trade-ins the on most new car sales. They also can make money on kick-backs on loans as well.

Start with the Invoice or you haven't got any idea what you're working with.

Question Invoice is not what the Dealer pays, net

The concept of working up from invoice is valid, but few know that MB dealers also receive quarterly rebates based upon the number of units sold and the model. This is the way in which manufacturers and dealers combat the "informed" buyer who now knows the invoice price. The quarterly checks can approach another 10% in net profit.

Buying at invoice is therefore possible, while still permitting a dealer good profit. This does not take into account a trade-in and/or incentives.

Having all the facts helps in any neogiation.

It sounds pretty reasonable to me for such a short lease time.

Is the $1500 down drive off fees or cap cost reduction?

Ok, I tried to write a good answer to describe cap cost reduction but they all sounded confusing. So here is a definition I found online:

This is a fancy name for a cash down payment, money you pay up front that is applied to the final purchase price. A large cap cost reduction will, of course, reduce the monthly payments, but it will also negate one of the big advantages of leasing. However, if you own your present car, you may be able to use it, as a trade-in, to satisfy the cap cost reduction to start the lease. Remember, you must pay sales tax on any cap cost reduction you make. Another source of capital cost reduction may be dealer or manufacturer participation. Dealers and manufacturers will sometimes lower the cap cost or offer a rebate that reduces the cap cost. A dealer or manufacturer cap cost reduction does lower your total out-of-pocket dollars, unlike a cap cost reduction that you must pay.

Drive off costs/fees (also know as lease inception costs/fees) are basically the bank fee ($795 for MB I think) a few other minor charges and your first months payment. So if the $1500 is cap cost reduction you have to pay that, plus your inceptions fees.
