Unhappy Big Gap on my 05' E320

Hi,

I have this gap in my hood that's driving me crazy... it seems like a really wide gap for a certified MB... has this car been in an accident? It did not show any kind of accident when i purchased it thru a MB dealer with the carfax report. Since this is a certified MB, would MB repair this under warrenty? the rest of the hood alignment seems to be ok as in the second photo... this gap seems to get wider as time goes by also... weired!

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Whoah, that is a huge gap! I'd take it back to the dealership and have them adjust it.

just took a pic of mine for reference

There's definitely something wrong there...

maybe the front bumper is settling down?

Take it to the dealer, pronto.

I did ask the dealer is this normal and they actually told me... gee we have to compare it with a 05' before we can tell you that.... OMG...

at the end, they told me to goto a bodyshop and have it checked out....

I was just not happy to have to goto another bodyshop... i think i better do it now!

i have the same problem before. it just that i never close the hood with two hands. so if i close the hood only using one hand, the presure only goes on one side. so try to close it with two hands and let see how. i hope it can helps. but if not try to adjust the closing spring located beside the headlight. it look like a nut that holding on the hood. good luck. if it still can;t work i think you should go to the bodyshop.

check car fax and make sure it's not been hit before. Eitherway, wholly unacceptable or a MB, take it back and demand it be made correct.

If you happen to go to the bodyshop just ask them to measure the paint thickness on the hood. That will answer the accident question.

Looks to me as if its been hit and perhaps the fender replaced. Carfax does not know lots of stuff that goes on and in fact I think its a joke. Much of this stuff is not reported.

I agree about the Carfax is not very useful... even the tech at theMB was telling me that Not everything goes into Carfax... example, if they settlled privatly w/o insurance....

It feels to me that this car has been in an accident... but u think it's certified by MB and they wouldn't do such a thing.....

i can't wait to hear what the bodyshop will tell me.....

I would not be too concerned about it being in a fender bender if it was correctly repaired. The fender gap can most likely be adjusted out. I also do not think that a minor incident that is repaired would in fact preclude MB from Starmarking the car. I would just ask your dealer to have the gap corrected and drive and enjoy it. I guess that this is one of the downsides of buying a used car. I have allways been a new buyer and have never purchased used.

yeah i agree. I think if it was a fender bender.. i probably would not care too much. I am just concerned why they didn't fix it properly... hopefully it's a minor adjustment.... I hope!

Here is the result

After taking the car back to the dealer. They examined the car to death to make sure the car has not been in an accident and agreed to fix the gap. They had to remove the front bumper and reinstall it!

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/dennis...cd.jpg&.src=ph

The gap is down from 1 inch to half an inch...

I can't say that i am satisfied with the result.. but it's pretty close?

should i go back and complain more? or just be happy they fixed it under warranty

That "repair" would not make me happy. I'd go back and have it done correctly.

A new Malibu has tighter gaps that 1/2"!

lol - I was in Cali for the past couple of days. Rented a fancy V6 Hyundai. Pretty nice car for basic transportation - and the gaps were definitely better than 1/2"

Thumbs down What if I am not satisfied with my MB services?

What can i do if i am not satisfied with the services perfomed by my MB dealer? When i asked why they can't fix the problem and i get a
"I DON'T KNOW"
for an answer...

Is there a regional service manager that i can contact? specifically Bay area?

Thanks

I'd just go to another dealer nearby
what is the issue you're having anyway? I am guessing someone here can tell you what is wrong.

I am in the Bay Area, which dealership did you go? You could also do is write a letter to Mercedes. Go on the website and it will tell you where to send your concerns. Hope they find a solution on your problem.

OK, I merged these 2 threads.

@ blke320

There is no reason to start another thread that deals with your dealer satisfaction issue on the same issue.

Dear super moderator,

I believe this is two seperate issues.

The gap thread was about the problem that i was experiencing and seeking advice whether the gap was a problem.

The second thread was getting advice on how to report dealer dis-satisfaction.

They are related, but not necessarily the same.

That gap is not acceptable and that dealer doesn't know what they're doing. The Mercedes dealer here in Los Angeles never gives me the "I don't know" answer. I suggest you to go to another dealership.
