CDI Fleece Oil Filters
Getting ready for my first oil change...bought oil filters and found out they are not fleece. Vendor says only from MB. Not a problem but ended up with 2 5000 mile filters. I guess I change the oil at 5K instead. Other sources for fleece filters?
Thanks...

Go spend the extra five bux at your MB dealer for the part that the car was endurance tested with and service intervals were specified for. We're not talking about windshield wiper blades here.

It is just out of my way vs drop ship...its a matter of convience. As a matter of fact, I did stop by MB to buy the filter after my post. Both are Mann filters and have the same Mann part number...HU721/2.
BTW...MB said the oil spec was changed to 229.51 (Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40) for diesels only.

MB selling non Fleece Filters??
In digging a little further, it appears that my local MB dealer has standard filters for my CDI and not the new Fleece filters. My understanding is the fleece filters are white in color with a poly re-inforced bands around them.
The standard paper filters are beige in color....this would explain why the P/N are the same. So, if I went to my local MB dealer for an oil change, I would receive the paper filter. Can't wait to see what is in the car.

Does anyone have the real story??

If you go to on-line parts sites, you will see that the CDI gets a regular filter and the E350 gets the fleece filter. Going to the fleece filter was to prevent the filter from deteriorating because of extended change intervals.
Either the CDI gets more frequent oil changes or the non-fleece filter for the CDI will last as long as the fleece filter. It's also possible that the particulates in diesel engine oil might clog the fleece filter.
I'd use what the dealers use or buy the recommended filters off the Internet.

CDI's go for 10K between changes and from reading this forum, should use Fleece Filters. Just trying to confirm if this is correct requirement or paper is ok?

Our CDI has a factory-applied sticker on radiator brace stating must use fleece filter.
Paper filters are not OK and everyone owning any Mercedes for which a fleece filter is made should forget they ever heard of paper filters.

Fleeced again
My CDI does not have a sticker listing fleece filter requirement. I called two MB dealers and they both said the one I have (non fleece) is the correct filter. I wonder what the real answer is? As I will be doing the oil change, it will be interesting to find out what is actually in the car as this is the original factory installed.
Any other CDI owner have any information??
Thanks.

Haven't changed oil from my W221 yet but all the MB original W210 and W211 CDI oil filters from my dealer have been "normal" paper type.
Oil change interval close to 30 000 km. I believe a CDI also has quite a lot more oil compared to a gasser.
