NAVI DVD update problem....

'04 E320 NAVI using ver 2005.3 DVD. Tried to update to ver 2006.1 and software update progress bars completed.
However when the map came up, no map. Just the colored background with the vehicle icon.
The coordinates and # of sats info displayed correctly at bottom of screen.

Tried a command reset..nothing. Tried driving around a mile or two...nothing.
Lesson-don't do these king of things on a Sunday.

Anyone know why this happenned and what the solution is ? I'm guessing some kind of software update at the dealer ?

Edit: Oh, and putting back the original DVD, progress bars again and again no map....so there's no going back

E500 Sport Wagon and Sl500
Similar problem....dealer gave me a 2006.2 as a thank you to be used in our 2004 E500 wagon.......when I put disc in get Message " please insert Nav Disc in trunk"......would not try to download......after 3 hours at the dealer, they called for help only to find out that even though the box said that the disc was for E Class 2004 thru 2007 that our car was an early build and would not recognize it and a software update would not help. Our 2005 SL500 accepted it........go figure!!!!

Same problem here. I tried updating my navi dvd a few months back, did the progress bars and everything but the navi was not functional after. I thought our 2004's needed a firmware update, but I never pursued it. I was able to go back to my original navi DVD.

Hmmm...you both seem to be able to go back to the original disc, where I can't.

Starbrite,

I went from 2004.1 to 2006.1 in my 2004 E500 with no problems at all. I'm guessing you got the 2006.1 from the torrent like many here did? Any chance you have a bad copy?

No, this is an original MB disc not a copy.

That's good news then, kinda. The disc and upgrade process should be covered under warranty. If it was a burned copy from a non-MB source, then you'd be S.O.L.

btw, when I went to my car to check what version of dvd I upgraded from, I accidently cracked my old dvd in half. The way I see it, you owe me one dvd.

Apparently, I'm a big dummy....that's how. I had the 2004.1 dvd in the inner sleeve of my owner's manual booklet zipper thingy. When I pulled it out of there, it broke into 2 pieces. My guess is that it was already broken. Maybe since it was in that netting in the passenger foot well, somebody kicked it? Either way, when should I expect my dvd?

Ok, that makes a little more sense. Of course it was unusable anyway,
because once you do a successful upgrade the old ver will no longer work.
I wish it did, because then I could just go back to my 2005.3

So apparently, the only new information on the DVD is that the NAV unit doesn't work anymore?

I had it too. (On The '04) Its a quick flash fix. My guess is that the later disc assumes you are already running a system with the later software operating system.

Ahhhhh,

Ya know, this makes sense. About 6 months ago, I had my COMAND flashed to the latest and greatest when had them enable MP3 playback.

Barry, yes , that's correct. I'll try to get to the dealer this week and get "flashed".
It is strange though that a few people were able to successfuly return to
their previous ver DVD after a failed upgrade. Seems to be a hit or miss situation.

Interestingly though, I do have MP3 playback capability.

And now it works !!

Well, this is very strange. Just went for a drive and the old dvd, which stayed in since not working yesterday, now works perfectly.(and yesterday I had recycled the power to the command several times as well as turning off the ignition and restarting)
I have no idea why sitting over night reactivated the sytem back to normal, however, best to believe, it's staying just the way it is.

Or as my wife said " don't you dare touch that dvd again or you will be in fear of your life ! "

Like Barry, I'm on the part of Long Island where the roads really don't change and there's no new construction, so 2005.3 is just fine.
