alright so now I'm really screwed. I was driving the car to the mechanic and several messages came up. 1) brake malfunction 2)brake reduced braking effect 3) brake longer distance braking 4) visit workshop 5) ESP malfunction 6) battery/alternator 7) abs 8) srs
So I've never seen so many messages in my life. And best of all right when I went to the mechanic the car died. I couldn't turn the wheel or anything and my comand switched off too. Worst thing is my mechanic wasn't even there and now I have to wait to see what the hell is wrong with this freaking car. I'm starting to wonder if I made a wise decision when I bought the car

Replace both systems (trunk) and auxiliary (engine compartment) batteries. If already replaced, revisit all connecting cables. If found to be fine have independent or MB dealer check/replace auxiliary battery relay located below windshield wiper cowl plastic trim, Lastly, have them check closed circuit systems for possible voltage drop. This involves disconnecting fuses or CAN-distributors and measuring the voltage drop directly at the fuse - PM your email address if you want a copy of the DTB S-B-54.10/162 with procedure.

It could be a bad alternator or a bad BCM. I don't think it will be too big of a problem. With that many messages in your IC, you do have "one of the sickest E500s" it seems!

thanks for the compliment, i just got a brand new alternator installed, and the BCM is what the computer???

yeah ill try that, ima go ahead and have my mechanic take a look anyway because well my car is stuck there, and probably go and buy the batteries myself and put them in there to see how that works out. and what exactly is the "relay"??

Energized if engine is running and system voltage is low to recharge auxiliary battery.

BCM=Battery Control Module which regulates charging the aux battery and the main battery, among other things.

I JUST LITERALLY WENT THROUGH EXACTLY WHAT YOU WENT THROUGH WITH ALL THE SAME MESSAGES. It cost me $2200 in total. You need a new battery control module and a new alternator. BCM cost around $400 and the alternator $615 plus over 6 hours of labor at $119/hr!

hey b_rashed, were you able to narrow down the problem ? I'm having the same issues (Low batt Convenience features disabled message with ABS, ESP malfunction and hardened Steering) - I've both batts replaced & no closed circuit leakages --

You do realize that his last post in this thread was in 2009? His last post on the forum was 2011, so I doubt you're going to get an answer.

Maybe we should revive this thread

I am having the same issue with my 2005 SL600 RENNtech. Both batteries replaced and BCU re-initialized(?)
I am going to continue to hunt this problem down, and if I come up with a resolution on my car I will post it here.

Convenience functions unavailable

I have been getting this same message. I have replaced both batteries. It started and ran fine and the next morning I received the message again and I let it run for a while to charge up and no problem. Today I did not start it up early enough and it was completely drained as to no unlock or lights ..nothing.
The dealership is miles away..plus I already know they are going to ruin the New Year. I kind of want to fix it..but @ the same time need something dependable.

This is the age old story of the man and woman looking up at the ceiling and seeing water dripping---the husband, who is all powerful says for months----Oh I can fix that. The wife murmuring to her self says oh BS, the ceiling has been leaking for months and my husband still has not found the leak.

Then one day, the families seven year old boy, who's bed is getting soaked because of the leak is right over his bed----says mother why not call a plumber!!

Might have it solved

Not sure what Plutoe was talking about, BUT I just had a high performance shop look at this, and they found:

Silly as it may sound, the draw appears to have been coming from the glovebox light. There is a little plastic lever (the piece we ordered) that moves with the glovebox door and essentially turns off the light whenever the door is closed. The lever itself is warped and keeps popping out of it's mounting bracket leaving the light on at all times.

They showed me the picture of the failed piece and it looked like an octopus that was dying, but that's beside the point. Once they replaced it they didn't see the amp draw. Not saying that yours would be the same piece, but probably the same concept, and a shop that knows what they are doing could probably pinpoint it pretty quickly.

My fix was fairly recent, but I've left the car for several days without driving and when I go to start it again it starts stronger than it ever has and no warnings.

SRS ABS ESP Brake Malfunction lights are on and the car started over heating. The battery/ Alternator light didn't pop up like it once did when I needed a alternator. I don't what could be the problem...now the car won't even start.
Alternator was replaced a few months back. Alternator should keep the battery some what charged...think it just needs a new battery?

So this ended up not solving the problem, taking it in again tomorrow, and the shop does seem determined to figure this out, so I will update when I know something.

I have a 2006 Cls 55 amg. I have been getting the convenience functions are unavailable off and on now for a while but always seemed to go away. I decided to go ahead and change the rear main battery since it has been almost 5 years since the last one. After the change everything was fine through my regular drive until about 40 mins in I get the same message and a new message thats red and has a battery and says visit workshop. this battery is also old but not sure why all of a sudden it would come on after changing the main one. Would the Aux battery also mess with my convenience functions?? I really don't want to go to the dealer.

Been in the same situation alternator + batteries replaced problem solved. Loose cable connections can cause this to.
Had my mirror my mirror housings of Saturday and found the right cable connector inside the housing was broken that one that holds it in place when u put it back in it clicks right in so kind of fiddle my way through it got it connected but then the damn error came back drive little checked voltage 13.9 weird. Anyway removed the Niro housing and found the connection wasn't plugged all the way in thus loose reconnect it proberly and voila problem solved haven't seen the error since so such a little problem can cause so much problem and now it charge with 14.2 volts I'm happy
