2003 E500 Transmission Linkage Unit

My transmission's torke converter had to be replaced a couple weeks ago at my local MB Dealer under my extended warranty. Then two weeks later the transmission linkage unit broke which I'm suspicious that was due to improper or sloppy work from the torke converter repair. Does anyone know whether the transmission linkage must be disconnected when the torke converted is replaced? If so, I believe that would be sufficient "cause & effect" to indicate sloppy repair work by the MB Dealer and I want to complain about it. Of course, my warranty covered both repair visits but that's not the point. My car was undriveable when the transmission linkage broke and I had to have it towed to the MB Dealer which took valuable time away from my busy day and almost caused me to miss an important meeting.....luckily I had my other car at home I could use.
