Mounting a Valentine 1

When my 08 E350 Sport arrives (hopefully in July) the first thing I’m going
to do is get a V1 radar detector installed. Ie: hot wired and permanently
mounted “someplace.” Where it looks good but also turns on and off with
the engine.

With my DTS and C6, the cigarette lighter stays on all the time so it’s not a
good place to connect to. My C6 V1 is attached to, and mounted just under,
the mirror. Just bought a little clamp and a 4” quick connect phone cord.
Plugs into mirror’s electric.

For the DTS, I had the caddy dealer do it. Cost me 225 for labor. Had to
take whole dash out, etc, so he could string hidden cord through to “velcro
set it” on the dash, in the back. Looked good. Couldn’t see the cord.

Sooo .. have any of you E350 owners done a “professional” V1 mount?
If so, I’d like to hear details. (Plugging it into the cig lighter doesn’t count.)
And, by the way, is the cig lighter always hot in the 350?

For what it’s worth, the Valentine 1 - with the arrows - is absolutely great!
I’ve had most of the others and Valentine’s ads are right .. once you’ve had
the arrows - to tell you where cop is - front, back or side, you’ll never want
to go back to any other detector.

V1’s are the most expensive (400) but what does a ticket cost .. plus your
increased insurance? Also, it’s fun to watch the arrows, but, who likes fun?

took me all of 30 mins to do the hardwire myself after taking home the car from the night before. you dont need to pay someone 200+ dollars to do what you can do in 1/2 hour. but if you must, you can pay me 1/2 that and i'll do it for you

Where is it sitting? On the center or side of dash? Under mirror?

Did you bring wires up from rear so they’re not seen?

Did you tie in to the ignition or where?

there's a post recently i'll try to dig it up. basically tapped into the cigarette lighter line that's ignition on. from there i ran the + & - to the V1 terminal underneath the dash/knee panel. then ran the V1 line up the side of the door where that black felt rubber strip up along the headliner and to the left of the rear view mirror.

Found the post thank xraymd for the post

V1

I had a stereo guy mount it for me. It is located on the very edge of the left dashboard. No wires are seen. It ties in to the cb panel, on the left side of the dash. Works great. I had a remote with my Porsche, but don't need it with this car. It is attached to the dash with velcro. Hasn't moved an inch since we put it in. Saved my a-- many times!!!! Works automatically with the ignition.

Thanks for the info. This install seems simple to you guys.
And, yes, maybe it’s simpler than the DTS was. But, while
I admire you clever guys who are a whiz at stuff like this,
I don’t do well with it.

My MB dealer will handle it for me as I’m reading the Star
in the customer lounge.

How about having Escort SRX or SR7 installed in your car? You will have really clean install in your car.

I saw many cars(Carrera GT, 997 Turbo, w211 AMG, Range Rover) with those while I was doing a little research. It sounded like it works quite well. I am currently seriously considering this for my 997.
