Battery low message

I keep getting this message in my message console
something like
"Battery power low, all conveniece features are temp unavailable"

then my speaker for the sounds system goes out and head light flickers...

sometimes, if i turn off the power to the sound, the speaker would come back temporarily...

Is it time for a new battery? my car is only 2 yr old! If i need a new battery, what kind of battery do you guys use? factory or aftermarket?

thanks!

There was a recall on the alternator & the battery control module.

A trip to the dealer is advised. It may be either of the two batteries, battery connection, the battery control module (BCM), or worst case something causing a voltage drain – all covered by warranty. Service Campaign 2005060008 JUN06 – Programming battery control module and 2005070017 APR06 – Inspect alternator/regulator may apply. Also mention DTB P-B-54.21/155a JAN07 addressing BCM replacement. While in, have them check for any/all recalls and service campaigns applicable to your vehicle and update the Audio Gateway (AGW) and COMAND head unit software if not already performed.

Thanks for all these great info! Going in the dealer tomorrow! I've had the headlight flicker for a long time... feels like the BCM issue??

took the car to the dealer and they did a software update and and handed back my car with a smile. It only needed a software update he said. you are good to go!

I am all happy driving back to home and thought i enjoy my HK sound. I turn on the music and Aaa.... HK good!

As i get to the traffic light... OMG the speaker goes out again!

UNBELIEVABLE!!! I didn't get pass 3 mi from the dealer and there it goes again... as i drive toward home, the damn battery power low message appeares again...

I am speechless... these people at the dealer have no clue?!? are all MB dealer like this? they just don't give a damn.....

I had the exact same problem with my 03 E320; headlight flicker, sound going out, and getting the same message. It was the alternator. Tell them to replace it.

The process to reprogram the BCM is straight forward navigating through STAR Diagnosis as is the alternator test. Since they ruled out both at this point (trusting their ability) it may be worth your while to request that they check for voltage drop to circumvent repeat visits. It involves disconnecting fuses and measuring the voltage drop directly at the fuse. Mention S-B-54.10/162 APR06. Or revisit their findings with the BCM and alternator!

If the problem is not resolved to your satisfaction this time around, I would suggest visiting another dealership.
