2002 E320 Australia - Running rough

My 2002 E320 W211 is running rough. Having previously owned an E240 which was a sweet and smooth/refined engine my current one almost feels like a diesel but its intermittent. When its cold and I put my foot down at a traffic light it feels really rough. After its warmed up (showing about 100 degrees c on the temp guage it feels quiet and only just slightly smoother. It has just come back from a Mercedes Dealer following a B Service. When I called then they said it could be a whole host of issues starting with wheel alignment (which has just been done and is OK) to new engine mountings (at 55,ooo ks ??) to bad fuel, to injectors clogged etc etc etc etc.

What do I do ??, Can an E320 engine actually be tuned? Could it be something as simple as needing new spark plugs ? at 55000ks ?

Any views and help is much appreciated. Thanks

Are you certain that its a W211?? The 03 was the first of the W211 at least here in the US.

Yes it is a W211. It was 2002 June when they were introduced in Australia. The VIN and Engine number confirms this as does my paperwork. I have also bought a few spares for a 211 in the last few months.

Since you have an E320 4 Matic, I wonder if you have any views about what could be causing this. Yesterday I tried the new BP (British Petroleum) 98 Premium unleaded Octane. Filled her up with this to see if a different fuel makes any difference.

Thats interesting I forget when the first deliveries were in the US but it had to be mid summer 2002 and they were all sold as 03 Model years.

Model years in Australia are different. I remember a guy in the S-Class AMG forum going on a huge rant about how "stupid" MBUSA is and America is in general about model years.
