That's not a user serviceable problem. To the Dealer with it!

It may be a malfunction in the Overhead Control Panel (OCP) and/or Rain light Sensor (RLS). BTW, always keep the exterior area of the Rain Light Sensor (RLS) on the windshield clean for proper operation - located in front of the interior rear view mirror.

Akhan,
My 03 E320 has the exact same wiper malfunction. Works when I push in the windshield wiper button, but no worky otherwise. I would appreciate a follow-up posting when the problem is diagnosed, so I can tell my dealership how to fix the problem.

My wiper system becomes unresponsive - no washer fluid or wiper function on pushing the stalk button or turning it to activate the wiper at different speeds, if I stop th ecar and re-start the car the functions return, then sometimes becomes unresponsive again. Initially thought it was a blown fuse, or a reset relay - anyone else with this issue??? Any solutions???? I recently changed the aux battery with a non dealer generic battery from walmart - dont know if that has anything to do with it. Hoping theres a non dealership fix out there.

I'll share the wiper problems/fixes I've had which sound like your issues. 1. Wipers don't work in first setting, Rair Senor Mode, but work in other settings: Solution replace RLS (Rain Light Sensor) at top of windshielf behind ambiant lighting unit. 2. Wipers don't work in any setting but will work when pushing level in for windshield washer spray: Solution replace switch in steering column. Hope this helps.

I am still a little unsure whether my problem is the same one. My wiper problem is intermittent, when it occurs, I can get it to work again by restarting the car. Also when my control switch stops working - everything about the wipers stops working - rain sensing mode, slow wipe, fast wipe, push switch for the windshield wash/wipe all stop working- but other stalk functions are fine - beam/indicators.

It does sound like a problem with the ignition switch in the steering column. It's a ~$100 part and takes about 30min to an hour to replace.

Ever find the problem? my 06 E320 CDI is doing exactly the same thing. The fuse has power whether the malfunction is occuring or not. Thanks
