Angry A/C Gremlins, HELP?!?!?!?

So yesterday I was driving for about 45 minutes over to my Dad's birthday party and about half way through the drive, I kept thinking "it sure is hot in here." What I discovered was that the front vents were providing cold air commensurate with the 72F setting that I leave it at, but the rear vents were full-on blowing air meant for Hades! The setpoint for the rear was 72F also, and I tried lowering the setpoint to somewhere in the 50s, with NO RESULTS. Just consistent hot air, and I mean scorching. I thought of all the customers that I pick up in my car and how embarassing it would be to burn them alive if this happened during the course of business.

I DID search the forum and found this thread. However it ultimately was a tease because it didn't provide a TSB or Part Number. Can someone close the chapter for all of us 4-zone E-Klasse owners! Many thanks! (Oh and I guess now my signature is incorrect...haha.)

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/152515-scorching-hot-air-coming-out-rear-c-ducts.html

THANKS!
Mike

It was my post that started it. By now it must be documented somewhere. Several people on here had it. Have you talked to your dealer's best mechanic/shop forman about it and gotten nowhere?

I no longer have that car. And you're right... The air coming out of the rear vents is Scorching Hot. Plastic trim warping hot! You MUST shut off the A/C system & roll down the windows to survive when this happens.

Its intermittant, and the only solution is to shut off the car & walk away for 20 minutes.

Check with Koenigstiger on this Forum.

P-B-83.20/72 SEPT04 Heat exchanger shut off valve will be replaced, part # A211 832 00 84.

Additional common problems, for future reference:

P-B-83.25/76b MAR07 - Blower motor stops running. May be caused by high blower output requested by the climate system and the blower regulator overload protection engaging unnecessarily. The blower regulator will be replaced with part # A230 821 63 51 and blower motor with part # A211 830 09 08 if need be.

P-B-83.30/74f MAR07 Air conditioning musty/moldy odor. The evaporator will be cleaned. If within 3 months the problem continues a new slanted heater box bottom part # A211 830 22 03 which allows the condensation to drain better and coated evaporator part # A211 830 07 58 (entered production as of VIN A675828 & X171590) will be installed.

P-B-83.00/102 MAY07 Reduced flow/cooling from climate system after long drives. From VIN A845370 – B100720 & X189946 – X223159 equipped with two zone system the cause may be that the evaporator has become frozen. Under certain temperature, humidity and driving conditions evaporator temperature control may not be optimized since the deletion of the humidity sensor starting with 7/2005 production. This condition may also be caused by a low refrigerant level. A humidity sensor (part # A211 830 05 72) will be installed.

P-B-83.30/100 MAY07 AC system only runs in a fixed or emergency operation mode. This may be due to a poor connection at the driver side SAM.

How much should one expect to pay for the faulty valve and to fix the blower regulator?

Hi Konigstiger,

Your long drive description is exactly my symptoms. and I checked my Vin, and it is A985023, so it falls in this DTC. Do you think my 06 would still be looked after by a dealer with the DTC above in 2015, well out of warranty?

If not, is there a rightup on adding this humidity sensor. part # A211 830 05 72 on a DIY level?

Thanks for any insight, much appreciated.

If humidity sensor is missing and this is the cause of your malfunction, have Service Manager get MB rep covering dealership involved to consider goodwill assistance referencing DTB. Coding will need to be changed so unless you have access to SDS it is not DIY.
