West Coast Docks
Those on the west coast. Has anyone heard from their dealer as to how the strike at the shipping docks is going to affect their orders. My E500 I think is on the water but I heard that even if the strike were to end today, the back-log that it has created is a least 4 to 6 weeks.

It will take a while to get things straighted out according to the news reports. Much longer than the strike itself and it's not over yet. It's costing the economy between 1 and 2 billion a day so if they don't settle, the President will probably order them back to work soon.

I think the Pres. is reluctant to step in, but at the rate in which that country in loosing money, he just about has to intervien in this situation. You are right about the backlog, it is starting to effect everyone that has goods coming from or going to other countries, even car dealerships. MBUSA is rerouting a lot of west coast ships to the east coast and then either trucking or training them to the west coast. This is very time consuming, but better than nothing!!!

According to CNN this is the latest. Looks like the President may step in on Wednesday after the panel's report.
From CNN:
Labor Secretary Elaine Chao announced that Bush named a board of inquiry to consider the impact of the dispute that has choked off trade between the United States and Asia since Sept. 27. Establishing the board is a step the president must take before he can exercise powers under the seldom-used Taft-Hartley act to seek a court order forcing the two sides back to work. The board is expected to report its findings Tuesday, and Bush can seek a court order immediately following the report.

Bmms8, do you know where your car is? Maybe MB will try to reroute to east coast and ship it accross country. If it is on the water in the Port of LA you could be in for a long wait.

Well the lockout will probably be over today by Presidentail order. According to news reports there are over 200 ships waiting unload and it will take six weeks or more to get caught up.

Well the good news is they are going back to work today. The bad news is that there are over 250 ships backed up and the reports are it will take 8-10 weeks to get caught up. There is also some discussion that they may not take the ships in order of arrival. They may unload perishables first. If I lived on the west caost and faced this kind of delay after waiting for the car to arrive in port, I'd be seriously thinking about trying to find a car on a dealer's lot if there are any available. Hopefully it will go faster than they think but I heard a union guy talk about the situation and seemed pretty clear they will not be working at full speed. What a mess!!

bmms8, I see you are showing a dock date of 10/15. After the long dock lockout that's great. Only 4 days away. It looked like it would be 6-8 weeks from now. That's great that it didn't effect you too much.

yea, it moved back 10 days, but we have to talk to our dealer to make sure that is the right date. but 10 days is toooooo much!!!, we would of got our car by now, or at latest tomarrow but the 22nd isnt to bad, gives me time to prac zaino and not let the dealer prep it
