Purchasing new 2008 E-Class

Hi, I just came across this site after searching for information on the new 2008 e-class.

I see according to some posts here that you can already order them? How does that work, I haven't seen any information about them on Mercedes' site.

Also, what has changed in the 08's?

Thanks and sorry if these are dumb questions.

Yes, you can order them although I don't know of anyone who knows what's changed or even what the price is going to be. Your salesman can tell you what options and colors are available and you just plunk down your deposit and they'll tell you when it will be built.

I have a pre-arranged deal based on whatever the Invoice is. I doubt it will be much, if any higher than the '07 prices so I know pretty well what to expect.

I think it's fair to assume that other than a couple of colors, not much has changed on U.S. cars between the 07's and 08's.

Newer E Class

Is it me or has something happened at MB. My '07 E550 has been and is perfect. So what gives? I factored in a few problems but in my line of work I can not spend any time taking a car back to the dealer. Thus I have'nt been back, car works just fine. Am I just lucky or have they finally figured out how to put them together properly?

It’s amazing! The first 08 E’s were built this past week!
Derek ALREADY has confirmation that his car was built.

Yet, NO MB dealer I’ve called knows “ANYTHING” about
the 08s. I called - randomly - the Miami MB sales Dept.
yesterday and they didn’t even know the ‘08 production
had started .. let alone any changes!

This dealer ignorance is astounding!

Yes, it is amazing !! Why isn't MBUSA providing 2008 specs to their dealers ?

However, Canadian dealers have had the specs for all 2008 E Class for some two months now, but no pricing as yet.
But, the trend for all 2008 E Class destined for Canada is more options included as standard equipment.

With the appreciation of the Canadian dollar over the past six months, we are expecting no change in price, just more goodies for the same price.

The 'dealer ignorance' is strictly based on what is important for your specific dealer to know at the time. It sounds like they may be concentrating on current inventory and haven't been planning ahead. Final pricing has yet to be released.

Not clear on your statement.

Are you a MB dealer? Do you know of any changes ... or, as
a Dealer can you find out and let us know? Please advise us.

Thanks for the responses.

So what advantages would there be to getting an '08 over an '07? Can anyone guess about any new features? Are there any rumours?

Well, in my case the price was the same (Invoice) so why not get exactly what you want with all the latest engineering changes and everything fresh? I did look at 07's but they had been picked over and those that were left were old stock.

One other thing to consider, I'll have one year newer model for the same price as an old model.

Thanks for the list.

BUT - can you point out just ANYTHING that’s different?
A new valve cap design .. ANYTHING ..?

I’m thinking that I should have bought an 07 and gotten
a better deal and been Driving it for the past 2 months.

There is still no trunk money in 07's and by the time there is (if there is), the choices will be pretty slim. There isn't much left around here and the ones that are left have been sitting around for a long time.

I'm ordering a new car for the first time and I'm pretty wired about getting a car that's exactly the way I want it and that's absolutely fresh. It won't have been driven by anyone else. It'll be clean. It'll have all the latest engineering changes installed. It'll be the latest model year with better resale value than an '07 and it'll be loaded with gadgets I'd almost never get otherwise.

Since I buy a new car about once a millennium, waiting a couple of months isn't much of a problem for me.

If I ever get around to replacing my '91 300E, I may order that as well. I'm thinking about going to Munich next year for a Euro Delivery on a new 328i. If only I could get my wife to fly, I'd have a shot at it

The 2008's will be released on July 16th. pricing about two weeeks prior. MB loves the suspense. I expect very minimal if any $ difference. The 2008 chasis was allocated last month, so the dealer in Miami is a bit sleepy.

That's good news. The 16th is the date I expect my car to arrive in LA. Would the 16th release date also apply to Canadian cars?

Canadian cars will be released as soon as they arrive. Due to strong sales, there is very little 07 inventory left and there are no major changes between model years; hence, no reasons for any holdback up here in the north.

321 AMG Sport Package was not available in 07.

The only car that (as far as I know) is identical in 08 as 07 is the Bluetec, I've heard that no sport package whatsoever will be available.

Canadian 08 E Class Upgrades !

Whilst it is true that there will be no sport package for the Bluetec (and NO adBlue either ! ) there is some very good news for Canadian customers.

The 08 Bluetec gets some additional equipment as standard: HK Logic 7 sound system, Cell Phone Prep, Siruis Sat Radio, Trunk Pass-through w/Ski Sack and Split Folding Rear Seats. For 07, the HK system was $1500 extra, the Cell Phone prep was $850 and Sat Radio would have been approx. $600 had it been available. So, about $3000 worth of extras as standard for the 08 Bluetec.

Also, the Canadian Premium Package for E320 Bluetec now includes Parktronic, Command w/Navigation, Rear Window Sunshade and Electronic Trunk Closure. Electronic Trunk Closure was a $750 option for 07 over and above the Premium Package !!

In addition to the above, the 08 E350 Sport gets Heated Rear Seats as standard and Keyless Go becomes part of the Premium Package. For 08, there will be only one version of the E350 4Matic in Canada and that will be the Sport Version.

With the appreciating Canadian dollar v's Euro, it appears that MB Canada is trying to narrow the pricing gap between US and Canadian versions by upgrading the content of the Canadian models.

I'm getting ready to purchase an 08' E-350 now but I have another question. This one is about the wheels. I'm not a big fan of the default rims (http://mbpublic3.electramedia.com/cu...50W4M/R044.jpg) and was wondering if it is possible to order the car with rims similar to the E-63? Do you even have any choice? I wasn't able to find much about that on the site.

If you are in North America, the style and size of alloys that you get are determined by the model (E320 Bluetec, E350, E550, or E63) and package (sport or non-sport) that you choose. If you want different wheels, all MB dealers have a very extensive catalogue of OEM alloys to choose from.
No doubt you could trade the stock E350 alloys for the E63 AMG type; it's all a matter of how much you want to spend.

OK, thanks for that.

I notice that you're in Vancouver, might I ask what dealer you bought yours from?

All four dealerships are factory owned, so there really is no big difference in pricing. It really comes down to what location is most convenient for you.
If you are on the northshore, send me a PM and I will recommend a contact person.

I can't get any confirmation that my car made it aboard Atlantic Cartier.
The next ship Undine departs on Thursday, the 14th from Bremerhaven to Halifax. Hopefully, my Bluetec will make that ship.
